[VIDEO] Family Desperate for Return of Missing Dog Offers a C7 Corvette Z51 and $4K Cash as Reward

By now, almost everyone in Hilton Head, South Carolina knows him as Marley’s dad, says Derek Kirchner.

That moniker comes after the Cobb County, Georgia man has spent the past five months riding a bicycle around the South Carolina tourist town while pulling a buggy covered with photos of his family’s beloved missing dog, Marley.

The four-year-old Whippet mix, a family pet since she was just a pup, went missing while Derek and his wife Alex and their son were on vacation in Hilton Head.

Despite immediately launching a frantic search, they couldn’t find their beloved dog, and eventually, Alex and their son had to return home to Georgia, while Derek remained behind to continue what has proven so far to be a fruitless search.

Now, in a massive last-ditch attempt, they’ve decided to sweeten the pot considerably, hoping that a $4,000 cash reward PLUS Derek’s 2016 Shark Gray Z51 Corvette Stingray coupe will finally be enough to bring Marley home.

“I’m hoping if someone has her, a Corvette is enough of an incentive to give her back,” Derek tells Fox 5 News in Atlanta.

“She would do anything for us,” Alex adds. “She’s so sweet and so caring and so loving that we just want to do anything for her.”

The increased reward comes as sightings of Marley have grown fewer and fewer over time. Derek has put up trail cameras and checks them daily, and the family has even enlisted the help of psychics, mediums, and pet communicators, all to no avail.

After five months, the Kirchners are running out of money and realize they can’t continue the search much longer, so they’re hoping the lure of a fancy Chevy sports car will pay off.

“We figured maybe money doesn’t matter, but a really nice car would,” Alex says.

In addition, they’ve organized a parade-style drive-around in Hilton Head this weekend to draw attention to their missing dog.

We certainly wish them the best of luck and hope Derek is soon minus a Corvette but plus a beloved family pet!

“If someone walked up to me right now and they had Marley and said I’ll give you the dog if I can have the car … I would walk away happy with my dog,” Derek says.

Update
Originally the story said the car was a Z06, but it’s actually a Z51 Stingray. We regret the error.

  1. Wow, that is desperate. My god keep the awesome car and get a new god damn dog. One of the dumbest ideas I’ve seen in a while. What is wrong with the general screwed up population in the south?? Jesus, what a giant shit hole.

  2. I figure the dog is worth $100 – heck, I’ll even be charitable and bump it to $400 for the title to the car.

  3. I feel very sorry that happened to them! I do know what it’s like to love and lose a pet. I do hope she is found! LK
