Corvettes for Sale: 383-Powered 1956 Corvette with a 5-Speed

Corvettes have definitely come a long way since the 1950s, but that doesn’t mean those first-generation cars still have to be stuck in the good ol’ days.

Case in point: This nicely updated 1956 Corvette that’s currently up for sale on Bring a Trailer. With six days left in the bidding, the price has quickly risen to $35,500, and for good reason.

This Corvette appears to be immaculate inside and out, thanks to a repaint in Aztec Copper with Ivory coves around five years ago. No word on whether that was the original color, which was chosen by just 402 of the 3,467 owners that year.

That’s not all the improvements done to the car, though. A modern 383 V8 and a Tremec five-speed manual transmission have been installed in place of the stock 265/210 horsepower engine and three-speed manual transmission. Other updates include an Edelbrock Pro-Flo 4 fuel injection system, an aluminum Edelbrock intake manifold, an aluminum radiator with an electric fan, MSD ignition, Patriot tubular headers, MagnaFlow mufflers, and aftermarket headlights. Handling improvements include Jim Meyer Racing-sourced front suspension and QA1 coilovers with adjustable front and rear shocks.

In addition to aftermarket headlights, this tastefully done restomod also has a fully restored interior, with beige vinyl bucket seats, matching door panels and carpeting, aftermarket climate control, a flame-embellished shifter ball, and a vintage-style audio system with an auxiliary input.

The seller, who lives in Aurora, Colorado, bought the car in Florida last May and says recent maintenance includes an oil change, a power steering fluid flush (though the pump drips), and new spark plugs.

While the bidding has taken off, we’re sure that figure is going to have to climb considerably higher for the car to change hands. After all, it appears to need little or no work, other than voluntary improvements desired by a new owner.
