Here’s a numbers-matching project ’62 Corvette for the right person ready to take on a restoration.
This California car up for sale on Craigslist for $37,450 still needs some work but on the bright side comes with the soft top convertible frame along with “loads” of extra parts, including an additional set of cylinder heads, wiring, interior door panels, “etc etc.”
The original 327 engine connected to a four-speed manual transmission remains under the hood after 60 years, and the seller notes that it’s “free by hand and turns over.” He also says the correct original wheels and a hardtop will be included with the sale.
No word on the history of the car in the craigslist ad, but it’s described as a local barn find “ready for new ownership to bring it back to being roadworthy again.”
Usually with Corvettes, there is a drop-off in sales the last year before a new generation debuts. Not so with the ’62, which marked the end of the C1s and the solid-axle cars, as a then-record 14,531 units left the St. Louis factory – all convertibles of course.
The most unusual thing about this car might be the interior – which pays tribute to the first 300 Corvettes in 1953, although the seats are covered with red duct tape, not vinyl! The new owner will need to redo the entire interior, including the instrumentation.
