The International Motor Racing Research Center was built in 1998 to celebrate the 50th anniversary of racing at Watkins Glen. It was in October 1948 that the USA’s first post-WW2 sports car road race took place through the streets of Watkins Glen and the rebirth of sports car road racing in America was on. Four years later, General Motors Chief of Design Harley J. Earl was watching a race at Watkins Glen when he had the first vision of the Chevrolet Corvette. Within a year, the fiberglass-bodied car debuted at the GM Motorama in January 1953, and the rest is history.

Now some 68 years later, the 2021 Corvette Stingray has come home to the International Motor Racing Research Center. But only until December 21st when the Red Mist Convertible will be offered to a lucky winner. The International Motor Racing Research Center is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization and your donations help preserve racing history!

The International Motor Racing Research Center at Watkins Glen is more than a racing library. The 5000 square foot research center is also home to more than 2000 racing programs from tracks across the world, periodicals dating back to the 1940s, and they have thousands of photographs, DVDs, VHS tapes, and racing-related films. Throughout the Center, you’ll find racing artifacts, memorabilia, and even a few cars may be on display.

Researchers from around the world access the IMRRC’s collection which contains everything from Formula One to the weekly track racers. The IMRRC is also the home of the Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) archives. Vintage racers and classic car buyers are among some of those utilizing the IMRRC in search of a particular car’s racing history.
