The National Corvette Museum’s 27th Anniversary celebration is quickly approaching and they’ve recently revealed an exciting addition to the weekend agenda. On Thursday, September 2nd they’ll be looking back at Corvette Racing’s historic 2001 run at the 24 Hours of Daytona.
In the video below racer and Hall of Famer Andy Pilgrim teases the event by talking about how he teamed with NASCAR legend Dale Earnhardt at the 2001 Daytona race. He also implies that he’ll reveal a story he’s been sitting on for the last two decades.
While Pilgrim’s car number 3 with codrivers Earnhardt, Dale Earnhardt Jr, and Kelly Collins didn’t win their class, their teammates in the number 2 car did just that. They also claimed the overall victory in the annual January spectacle. The No. 3 C5-R came home 2nd in class and 4th overall. An amazing result for a Corvette Racing team that was still in its infancy at that time.
The program will be called “24 at 20: Earnhardt, Corvette, and the Overall Win at Daytona”. It’ll feature Pilgrim, Doug Fehan, Gary Claudio, and other dignitaries. It will take place in the NCM’s Conference Center from 11:30am to 1pm on Thursday, September 2nd.
