Corvettes for Sale: 1961 Corvette Project Can Be Restored As Buyer Sees Fit

In the past, the owner of this 1961 convertible has been a one-man operation restoring Corvettes.

Unfortunately, his current battle with stage IV cancer means he won’t be able to finish working on the car, and it’s up for sale on eBay. With two days left in the auction, activity has been brisk with 51 bids pushing the high offer to $26,651.

The seller says the car as it sits represents a perfect opportunity to head off in any number of directions and would make “a good Retro-Rod, Street Rod, Pro street, or return it back to N.C.R.S. Standards or just make it into a Driver quality C1 Corvette,” he believes.

That’s especially true since the new owner will have to install a new motor and transmission and could go as mild or as wild as desired.

The owner admits it’s not a perfect car but after more than 60 years says it remains “very solid with no rust” with “only minor surface rust in a few areas.”

The body is described as being in “decent” condition but does have a small repair to the top left front fender not visible from the outside. Later damage incurred to the left front bumper area remains unrepaired.

When the seller purchased the car, it had spent some time on a military base in California in the early ’70s and had then been parked under a very large fir tree for 30 to 35 years in the Medford, Oregon area and was covered in several inches of pine needles. Fortunately, he says both of those areas have very dry climates, helping to keep rust to a minimum while the car was largely being ignored.

Originally white with blue interior, the car is now mostly blue with mostly black interior but the sky’s the limit for a new owner.

Personally we’d take the car in a restomod direction … if money was no object.

We certainly wish this longtime Corvette enthusiast success in his auction and more importantly in his battle against cancer!

  1. Terrible to hear about the owners battle with stage IV Cancer. I hope he beats that horrible disease. As far as the Corvette goes, it would definitely make an excellent project car for someone out there. What is with all these people leaving cars outdoors in wet weather states like Oregon? I have seen episodes of Graveyard Cars which takes place in Oregon where car after car is left outside and exposed to the elements, which is never a good idea. Find some kind of a stru

  2. cture or at least a covered parking spot. In warm weather dry states you can get away with leaving cars outside. But moisture laden states that reside in the Pacific Northwest it’s probably not a good idea.

  3. Just me, but I would probably go the resto-mod route as I want modern conveniences and modern mechanicals. Just me. Go your own way.
