[VIDEO] Alexander Rossi: The C8 Z06 is a Legitimate Race Car Without Stickers

In a recent episode of Matt Farah’s The Smoking Tire podcast, the guest was Alexander Rossi who just earned himself a Rolex watch with Wayne Taylor Racing at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. It’s a wide-ranging interview (I am told, but haven’t heard the whole thing), but for Corvette enthusiasts interested in the C8 Corvette Z06, you’ll see why we skipped ahead to the end.

At around the 49:00 minutes in the discussion, Alex is asked about any vehicles out in the marketplace that excites him, and he talks a bit about the Acura NXS which he says is the only supercar that he’s had a chance to drive on a race track and was impressed with it. He also says that it’s unbelievable that we live in an age where any Tom, Dick, or Harry can go buy a Hellcat or something similar with 600 horsepower.

Alex then tells Matt that “a buddy of his drives for Corvette in GTLM in IMSA…”, to which Matt says “that’s a hot car”. Alex agrees and continues, “…check this out, the C8 Z06 is going to come out and is legitimately the C8 race car without stickers.” At least, that’s what we think he says as the audio is garbled at that exact point of the statement. Doh!

Matt says that he’s heard the street motor via a camouflaged prototype captured on video, and says “that flat-plane motor sounded like the business.”

Alex responded saying that “It was very annoying as we were actually pitted next to it [C8.R] at Daytona, and when they do like their launches from the pit stop, it literally blows up your soul.” He adds, “You have the headphones on and everything, and every time it happens, you just jump back and shake inside.”

I have the podcast video cued up for that point in the conversation, so please let me know if you think he is saying something different than what we heard:

Update
We reached out to Matt Farah about the Rossi quote and he tells us “that sounds about right.”

That is one of the greatest visuals ever put to words I’ve ever heard.
