The first 2020 Corvette Stingray Convertibles were supposed to be headed to customers at this point of the build cycle, but with the shutdown of the plant last month for COVID-19, the drop-tops have been put on hold for the time being…like everything else in our world.
We know the Corvette Assembly Plant had built a few HTCs before the shutdown for the Captured Test Fleet. It’s been a while since we’ve had a legit SPIED post with the world shut down, but thanks to ‘Sin City’ via the Corvette Forum, we have pics to share of this rare Unicorn sighting.
The 2020 Corvette Stingray Z51 Convertible is finished in the outgoing Long Beach Red and features body-colored trim with Carbon Flash Nacelles, side mirrors, and Z51 spoiler. The 2LT interior has the Natural leather seats which contrast nicely with the dark red and black exterior.
I tell all those who contact me that we expect Chevrolet to produce the C8 Corvette Convertibles during the 2020 model year. If we can get the plant reopened and vendors back to work within the next few weeks, there is still the opportunity for the 2020 model-year convertibles (and Coupes) to be built during the months (May, June, July, and much of August) leading up to the model year switchover in early September.
No one yet knows the reopening plan for the Bowling Green Assembly Plant. Your dealer doesn’t know and the Corvette Concierge doesn’t know, so don’t be bothering them! And no (to the person that asked), I’m not giving out Kai Spande’s email address so you can ask personally. Your dealers will get with you when there is news specifically about your car, and as soon as anything is announced regarding the restart, we’ll let you know right here!
