[RIDES] David's 1981 Corvette

So it’s been a bit since our last RIDES post where we feature the Corvettes owned by our readers. Out of the blue, I received this email today and thought this to be a perfect time to reboot the series.

Here is Rick telling us about his Corvette:

I ordered my Corvette in October 2017. It was at the end of the production year for 2018’s and I had hoped the cars that came out of the new paint shop would look “better”. Well as you can see, I was not disappointed. I’ve had my baby for close to two years now (2,150 miles) and I absolutely love it. The paint is close to flawless! And a 2018 “late” model with a Manual and Chrome wheels (both no longer offered) may be a classic in the making?!

Anyway, I’m not one to brag, but I couldn’t resist “sharing” my second Red Corvette (first was a 1994 C4 similarly equipped) with you!

I live by the ocean in So Cal and couldn’t resist the perfect Beach/Corvette plate either.

Want to see your Corvette featured on My Corvette Ride? Pick your Corvette’s best photo, or a photo with a really good back story and send it to [email protected]. You must include your name and city/state and I need more than just a photo, so please give me a caption or details that tells us something about your car or the setting of the photo.

  1. I think Rick ordered his 2018 Corvette in Oct. 2018, not 2017? Maybe I’m missing something.

  2. No, Ronnie. He is right he ordered his 18 in 17, and probably got it as a Christmas gift. I ordered my 18 GS in September 17, for the same reason as Rick, the improved paint, and got it on the last business day of 17. Production of 18’s stopped in January 18, and I think later that month, the 19’s started production. My 18 GS is my first; it was 45 years in the making. Had to get all my kids were in good shape on their own. My GS is similar to Rick’s: it is torch red, chrome wheels, manual, but it is a coupe. I love it.

  3. I ordered my 2018 Corvette in May of 2017, not totally understanding about the allocation process with the dealer. Mine was delivered on 12/20/2017. Long Beach Red Coupe, same chrome wheels and a manual. 7,550 miles to date. The car is a real GT in that it has been very comfortable on a number of 1,000 mile plus road trips!
