[PICS] Along comes a Spyder: The 2020 Corvette Convertible

As Chevrolet showed off the 2020 Corvette last night at the official reveal event, many were wondering where the convertible model was. Chevrolet elected not to show the Spyder-version at the reveal, however, the convertible model was shown on video during the event.

Corvette enthusiasts will have to make a hard choice between the Coupe version which shows off the beautiful LT2 V8 that is tucked behind the driver while the convertible models have a flat rear deck with vents for engine cooling.

We still haven’t seen how the top operates to know exactly the sequence of the panels opening up and being tucked inside the engine compartment, nor do we know if there are any storage limitations with the top up or down when compared to previous generations.

Here are three screen captures of the 2020 Corvette Convertible from the live reveal’s video feed:

While the 2020 Corvette Hard Top Convertible model wasn’t at the live Corvette reveal, that does open the door for Chevrolet to share the car at another event. Corvettes at Carlisle and the National Corvette Museum’s 25th Anniversary show remain real possibilities in our book as great events to show off the drop-top Corvette.

Another Corvette reveal? We can only hope that it will take place at a Corvette event!

Stay tuned!

  1. All in all, super impressive! Who would have imagined storage behind the engine compartment in the coupe variant?

I think Saint Arkus-Duntov is smiling from above!!

  2. Sweet mother of Je… One of my favorite cars of ALL TIME is the Ford GTX1 custom car. This Spyder roof line has that EXACT roof line… Uggg.. I thought I was keeping my C7 Callaway SC627 for the duration. As SOON as this baby’s coming out, it’s getting sent to Callaway!

  3. I’m Bruce Wayne, and I’m kinda ticked off that you were much too inspired by my Batmobile (with a salute to Geo. Barris).

  4. I suspect that the Spyder is just a concept vehicle, or its top will be like the Sky and Solstice.

  5. I don’t know if anybody noticed, but the convertible seems to have the rear end jacked up in the few pics available. None of the camo mules ever look like that, but their tops were never down.

  6. Everything I expected and much more. I am amazed at the pricing base. All the rumors indicated something in the $130,000 range and offering the old and new models at the same time. It looks amazing. I have bought from you before now need to get on your list. I am sure that we are looking at 2001 by now right.?

  7. So, when does production begin ? I guess I will have to make another pilgramage to Bowling Green . Yaaa !

Been there quite a few times and was never disappointed. I’m currently on no. 5 but this could be no. 6.

Great job GM. I love it.

  8. I’m into my fourth Vette Convertible (two C6s, two C7s). Yeah, I’m old. Also owned two C4 coupes. But so far I’m not feeling this C8 vert look. Hate those tall, side pillars (B, C or whatever ya’ll calling them)!. Short people like to see stuff sneaking up behind us! Hoping somebody rendered it wrong!

Might end up back in a coupe. I do like that look! Sweet!

  9. Surely this 2020 C8 will be among one of the greatest Corvette vehicles ever manufactured. It’s rivals are few and the price point is incomparable for the power and performance received. The future of Corvette has finally arrived and it be unveiled for the world to see.

  10. I would like to purchase a fully loaded 2020 Corvette. I understand that you are selling at sticker price. I have homes in Arizona and California but I would enjoy flying back there and driving it back across the country. If you have a interest please tell me your allocation and what number I would be on your list of orders.
    Thank you,
    Gary Carson

  11. I would also love to purchase a fully loaded 2020 Corvette, at sticker price. Have homes in Colorado and Oregon but would also love to fly there and then drive back home. Please provide your allocation and number I would be on your list of orders.
    Thank you
