The Richard Cohen Collection of Five C2 Corvette Big Tanks Headed to Mecum Indy

The Corvette docket and Mecum’s Indianapolis auction continues to grow and impress more and more each day. We already told you about the 1967 L88 Coupe being offered there. If that beast isn’t enough for you then you can take a chance at not 1, not 2, not 3, but 5 big tank midyear Corvettes – one from each year of C2 production.

When it comes to low production options on midyear Corvettes, RPO N03, the 36.5-gallon gas tank was a perennial low runner. Between 1963 and 1967 just 210 total “big tank” Corvettes were built. Annual quantities ranged from a low of just 2 in 1967 to a high of 66 in 1966. Needless to say N03-equipped Corvettes have become highly prized among collectors. Seeing one is a truly unique experience. Seeing five in one place is virtually unheard of. What makes the Mecum Indy cars special is that they all come from one collection.

Richard Cohen, founder of Long Island Corvette Supply, assembled the collection over the course of a decade and it’s widely considered to be the only collection of its kind in the world. Sadly, Cohen passed away in early 2017 and now the cars are being offered individually.

Each car has either Bloomington Gold or NCRS Top Flight honors in addition to the all-important documentation. They’re all highly optioned and feature desirable color combinations.

Here’s a closer look at Richard Cohen’s big tank Corvette collection.

  1. The ’64 is interesting, combining the big tank with all the creature comfort options, including a Powerglide transmission. Clearly wasn’t put together for racing!
