Cadillac's Boss Shoots Down Rumors that New 4.2 liter V8 Will be Going in a Corvette

Today at the New York Auto Show, Cadillac’s president Johan de Nysschen emphatically put to rest any rumors that the new 4.2 liter Biturbo V8s will be headed for the Chevrolet Corvette.

“Just quit the speculation it’s headed for Corvette. It’s not.” stated de Nysschen.

The two new engines which offer 500 hp and 550 hp will only be found in Cadillacs, giving the automaker an exclusive engine for the first time in years. The engine features a Hot V configuration that places the turbos on top of the engine, which eliminates turbo lag and reduces the size of the total engine for better packaging.

The first Cadillac to receive the new engines will be the CT6-V which will make use of the high performance 4.2 liter V8 producing 550-hp/627 lb-ft torque. It will be mated to a 10-speed automatic. The 500-hp engine will find itself going to other Cadillac models, although de Nysschen wouldn’t say which ones.

Much of the speculation comes in part from the new engines being assembled by hand inside the Corvette Assembly Plant’s Performance Build Center. Cadillac has estimated about 3,000 engines per year will come out of the PBC.

Autoblog points out that Cadillacs president said that this specific engine won’t be destined for the Corvette, and that it’s still possible that a variant of the 4.2 liter V8 may be in Corvette’s future.

  1. de Nysschen’s claim is fake news. This DOHC engine WILL end up in a C8, just not in 4.2L form and maybe without turbos. Otherwise, what you see is what you get. Nice try Johan, but no cigar.

  2. George, where do you get your information? GM Powertrain (Global Propulsion Systems) designed an engine specifically for the mid-engine C8. Just like they designed an engine for a Cadillac that may just be built on the same platform as the C8.

  3. No, these one’s that are just for Cadillac would be. Corvette V8 engine will be TT with the turbo’s on these side, manifold will be different, cylinder-heads will be different. It will be DOHC four valves, but these rest will be different.

  4. 5.5-liter TT v8 DOHC and 5.5-liter NA DOHC V8 both for corvette C8 mid-engine. Cadillac engine will be Cadillac 4.2-liter TT V8 only.
