11 Reasons You Should Attend the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals this Weekend in Chicago

It’s time to delay the Thanksgiving Day party prep and hit up one of our favorite car shows, the annual Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals (MCACN). Each year Bob Ashton and his team assemble under one roof some of the finest Corvettes and muscle cars you’ve ever seen.

We try to never miss this show. Each year the various collections of cars seem to just get better and better. So why are we such big fans of this show? Below are 11 good reasons why you should head to the Windy City this weekend.

  1. It’s inside. We all know how bad November weather can be in the upper Midwest. Last year’s show took place while a raging snow storm moved through the area. While 10 inches of snow fell outside it was nice a cozy inside.

  2. The Triple Diamond judging and display sponsored by our friends at Corvette Central showcases the best Corvettes around. Participants are only eligible if they’ve already taken home a Bloomington Gold Certificate and a NCRS Top Flight Award.

  3. The Corvette Legends Invitational display will highlight 1966 and 1971 Corvettes as they celebrate their 45th and 50th birthdays respectively. We expect to see a healthy dose of 396 and 454 equipped Corvettes this weekend.

  4. The Class of 1966 display sponsored by NCM Insurance which will Featuring rarities from GM, Ford, and Chrysler. Expect plenty of hemi’s and a special gathering of Boss 351 Mustangs.

  5. The Class of 1971 display will highlight what is considered the end of muscle car era. We’re sure to see a host of big and small block beasts from all manufacturers.

  6. The Cars of Carroll Shelby featuring documented Cobra’s, GT40’s, and Shelby Mustangs. Don’t be surprised to see a Daytona Coupe and several one-off’s and prototypes.

  7. The Barn Find/Hidden Gems display which shows cars in their as-found condition complete with dirty, mud, dust, and whatever else covered them when found. Leave your detail supplies at home for this group.

  8. The “Day 2” display showcasing cars tricked out by Nickey, Yenko, Mr. Norm, Royal Pontiac, and others. Others are equipped with popular modifications from an age gone by.

  9. The premiere unveilings. No less than 12 freshly restored cars will be shown for the very first time since being completed. They’re covered until it’s time for the reveal. We’re especially interested in the 1967 Corvette 427/435 coupe debuting at 10:30am on Saturday.

  10. The celebrity appearances. Some of this year’s special guests include CorvetteBlogger fantasy girlfriend Courtney Hansen, racing legend Bobby Unser (and his 1969 Pike Peak Torino), and Linda Vaughn among others.

  11. The seminars. While at the show tune up your knowledge of collector car fraud, the only GT500 convertible, the Chevy COPO program, collector car tires plus several more assorted topics.

The 11 items above are just the start of things to see at MCACN. There’s also a swap meet, car corral, and vendor areas. Young gearheads can compete in the model car contest, take part in the scavenger hunt, and even judge some cars. There’s live music both days and even several autograph sessions.

We’ll be in Chicago all weekend so keep an eye on our Facebook and Twitter feeds for updates and photos from the show. If you’re going to the show this weekend too be sure to post some of your photos on our Facebook page or hit us up on Twitter.

The 2016 Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals takes place at the Donald E. Stephens Convention Center in Rosemont, Illinois this Saturday and Sunday November 19th – 20th. The show is open 9am-9pm on Saturday and 9am-5pm on Sunday. Tickets are $20 at the door. Kids 12 and under get in free.
