Corvette Racing Receives Balance of Performance Adjustments Ahead of Sebring Test

Corvette Racing started the 2016 campaign strong with a first and second place finish at the Rolex 24 at Daytona. While we were very happy for the outcome, many of us wondered what impact the 1-2 finish would have in terms of the Balance of Performance equation for the team for the rest of the season.

According to Sportscar365.com, the balance of performance settings for the Rolex 24 at Daytona was customized for that track and IMSA has now issued the standard configuration of BoP regulations for the remainder of the WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, just in time for the official Sebring test next week.

Corvette Racing’s Program Manager Doug Fehan has so far been optimistic with IMSA’s changes to how it calculates the performance of the race cars, moving from arbitrary changes based on speed and results to a data-driven model which features data recorders installed in each car.

So while Corvette Racing does see some changes to the BoP for Sebring and beyond, we’ll follow the good Dr. Fehan’s lead in allowing the new system to do its thing before we kick off another letter writing campaign to IMSA’s Scott Atherton.

What changes will Corvette Racing and its GTLM competitors undergo for the Sebring test session?

The Corvette C7.Rs along with the Ford GTs will be picking up 10 kg of additional weight while the Porsche 911 RSR will be allowed to shed 10 kg from its weight. The C7.Rs will also get a 0.4mm smaller restrictor.

IMSA also instituted a boost decrease for the Ford GTs while the BMW M6 will receive an boost increase.

Sportscar365.com’s John Dagys does say that further BoP adjustments are to be expected at the conclusion of the two-day test session next week.

The next round of the 2016 WeatherTech SportsCar Championship is the Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring on March 19th.
