[VIDEO] Is This Unique C6 Corvette a Saleen Prototype?

Could this video show what apparently could turn out to be the first Saleen Corvette ever?

An enthusiast in Los Angeles spotted this unusual-looking car and followed it to see if he could find out more about it.

Lo and behold, Steve Saleen – yes, apparently that one – turned out to be behind the wheel and told the inquisitor that the car was a Corvette-based prototype.

No other details have yet been released by Saleen, and it’s strange that the company – which normally takes an existing manufacturer’s cars and adds its own unique touches – would apparently base the car on the old C6. Perhaps the car is early in the development stages and it’s cheaper to use an old platform, though that seems an odd way to approach the project since the C7 is so much more technically superior to the sixth-generation ‘Vette.

It is interesting to note the split rear window, a styling touch that was rumored In the early going to be used on the C7 but wound up not working – from what we remember, design chief Ed Welburn said the split just didn’t feel right on the C7. We’re not sure about the six taillights on this prototype, though.

While the car remains a mystery, Saleen did say that it produced 850 hp from its powertrain.

Guess we’ll just have to wait and see what Saleen finally says, if anything, about its apparent latest creation.
