Legendary Corvette Racer and Racecar Builder John Greenwood Passes Away at Age 71

The Corvette world has lost yet another legend.

Back in the 1970s, the name John Greenwood was as prominent in the Corvette world as the names of Oliver Gavin and Jan Magnussen are today.

Greenwood and his brother Burt grew up in the home of a General Motors executive who had earlier been a fighter pilot during World War II, so it was no surprise that John first became widely known for his success racing in a Corvette, winning back-to-back SCCA A Production National Championships in the early 1970s.

The Corvette world lost a giant of an enthusiast this week.

Longtime Ohio Chevrolet dealer and Corvette Hall of Famer Bob McDorman passed away Wednesday at the age of 82 after a brief illness. Bob was best known for being a Chevrolet dealer in Canal Winchester, Ohio for nearly 50 years and during that time period his own personal collection of Corvettes and other GM vehicles was one of the largest collections of its kind.

Former Corvette Racing Icon Jim Jeffords Passes Away

One of the most successful Corvette race car drivers from the 1950s passed away on March 6, 2014.

Jim Jeffords started his career as a Chevy racer after impressing Ed Cole with his driving behind the wheel of a Jaguar 140 on Memorial Day weekend 1956. That performance led to Jeffords being asked to race John Fitch’s modified Corvette in the feature the next day.

Under a cold gray sky that earlier in the day had left a dusting of snow on the Connecticut countryside he loved so much, John Fitch was laid to rest on Saturday. The December 1st interment was near his home and the Lime Rock Park race track that bore his imprint for so many years.

Fitch died in the early morning hours of October 31, 2012. He was 95 years old.

Sally Finneran | MLive

The love that Corvette owners have for one another never was clearer than Sunday in Kentwood, Michigan.

That’s when some 65 Corvettes rumbled past the home of late Kentwood Mayor Richard Root to pay homage to a dedicated Corvette owner who lost his four-year battle with cancer on Friday.

The Corvette community lost a good friend last week. Jeff Hardy, the man who created the simple yet wildly popular Corvette locater service passed away on Wednesday, December 7th after battling an undisclosed illness for some time. For us, his website provided more than just the ability to find specific Corvettes, it provided us with a running narrative of how Corvettes were selling.
