During last week’s Detroit Autorama, Cobo Hall was wall-to-wall hot rods and many of those hot rods were Corvettes. The classic hod rod Vettes ranged from originals and restomods to full blown customs like the 1962 Corvette named “Elegance” that won a spot in the Ridler Great 8. Not to be outdone, later model Corvettes included the SEMA Z06x track Corvette and a sinister Black Lingenfelter C6 Convertible were also on full display. Even Jake was in the house! The annual Detroit Autorama is considered the pinnacle of custom rod and car shows. Over the weekend, 100’s of cars and trucks converged on Cobo Hall in Detroit. Even as the cars were being rolled into their display areas, the judges were already sorting through the contenders until they come up with the Great 8 – the top eight cars in the show. Those cars are then considered for the prestigious Ridler Award, named after Don Ridler who in the 1960’s moved the Detroit Autorama to the forefront of custom car shows in the US. This year a 1962 Corvette was selected as one of the Autorama’s Great 8.

Canada. The great white north. The country that brought us back bacon, Molson beer and Ron Fellows is also home to Elite Tuners of Canada (ETC) and their Gold Rush colored C6 Corvette. The tuning company made their first appearance at the 2011 Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto last week with a display of two cars in front of the Chevrolet area. Dubbed the “Top Tuner 5” project, the Corvette and its Chevy Cruze counterpart “Top Tuner 5.5” turned a lot of heads with the race-inspired tuning projects.

The driver of this 1998 Corvette was allegedly racing another vehicle (article says Corvette, we heard Mustang) in Long Beach. Apparently a street light turned red and the other car stopped, but the Corvette blew the light at 100 mph, hitting a Toyota Cressida which sheered it in half. Miraculously, no one was seriously injured in the crash. No charges were filed at the scene against the Corvette driver, but police are still investigating.
Okay, who ordered the 10 Velocity Yellow Corvette Grand Sport Coupes? These were spotted on a hauler heading south on I-65 just North of Nashville.
