Corvette Racing: C6.R's Subjected to IMSA Performance Adjustments

The American Le Mans Series has announced their performance adjustments for the GT class ahead of next weekend’s race at Long Beach. The Corvette C6.Rs started the season with IMSA mandating a minimum weight of 1270 kg. That requirement added 25 kg to the Corvettes which equals roughly 60 pounds. IMSA has stated that the Pratt and Miller Corvettes will run with the extra weight until completion of Round 3 at Laguna Seca in May.

Corvette Racing Extends Partnership with Mobil 1

Lost in our coverage of news from the 12 Hours of Sebring a couple weeks ago was that ExxonMobil and Corvette Racing have extended their partnership in a new multi-year deal. The partnership marks the 14th consecutive year in which the Mobil 1 brand as been a major sponsor for Corvette Racing and the “Official Lubricant of Corvette Racing.” In this multi-year agreement, the Mobil 1 logo will be featured on the Corvette C6.Rs, team uniforms and vehicles.

In addition to the hood from the #4 Corvette C6.R that was sold for $3,000, several other parts from the race cars were auctioned by Corvette Racing’s Doug Fehan and Ambassador Ron Fellows at the Corvette Corral at the 12 Hours of Sebring. The money raised was donated to Motorsports Ministries, an organization offering non-denomination services at the track since 1985.

First Corvette to Win at Le Mans to be Displayed at the C5/C6 Bash

The 1960 Cunningham Corvette was the first Corvette to win at Le Mans. The story of the skillful restoration of this classic Corvette will be told to fans attending the C5/C6 Bash at the National Corvette Museum on May 1. Lance Miller, son of “Corvettes at Carlisle” founder Chip Miller, plans to bring the Corvette to Bowling Green along with one of its drivers, John Fitch.

In this episode, the team begins the ALMS season at the 12 Hours of Sebring. On a track known for its high speeds, changing surfaces and a total of 17 turns, the Corvette Racing team began the race weekend “living the dream.” As you may have seen, an unfortunate miscommunication brings both Corvettes to collide in pit row, ending their chances for a win to start the season. The episode features exclusive post-collision interviews from the Corvette crew chief, Dan Binks, team owner Gary Pratt and program director, Doug Fehan and a new exclusive angle of the crash not yet released.

Corvette Racing driver Jan Magnussen made headlines last season when his battle at Laguna Seca with the #45 Flying Lizards Porsche ended with Mags going into the wall. We spoke with Jan prior to the start of the 2010 12 Hours of Sebring and asked him about the incident and whether he has talked with Jorg Bergmeister since the incident. We also asked Jan about his running the Nurburgring in a Corvette ZR1 last fall and if he thought he could be Jim Mero’s 7:26.4 time.

This video is in response to all the Corvette Racing fans who are downtrodden and dejected following the 8th and 9th place finishes at the 12 Hours of Sebring. Fear not! We got the best cars, drivers and pit crews in the ALMS. Mistakes happen. Uncontrollable events happen. This IS racing after all. There are still nine races to be run and you can bet Fehan, the drivers and the Pratt & Miller crew will learn and move on from the events surrounding the pit lane crash at Sebring. Until then, let this little clip hold you over until the Long Beach Grand Prix in mid April.
