What if you don’t particularly care for the C7 Z06 and would rather buy a brand new C6 Z06 instead?

Then this super-low-mileage, 505-horsepower 2009 Corvette might just fit the bill for you.

The car is up for sale through Friday on eBay, and the current bid has already climbed to $38,000 with just a day to go.

With only 720 miles showing on the odometer, this black-on-black C6 has barely been taken out of the box, it would seem.

And that turns out to be the case, literally.

If you watch those cable shows about the folks who bid on locked storage units, hoping to find hidden treasures inside, then you’ll love the story behind this Corvette.

Apparently, it was bought in a storage unit deal in Duluth, Georgia, according to the seller, who claims the car has been “abandoned!”

They go on to report they have checked the VIN and say it is not a stolen vehicle. Nevertheless, the car doesn’t come with any paperwork, like a title.

In fact, they say, “Please don’t ask if we can do the Title for you! If we decide to go that route we will post the car back up for sale in two months when we get the Title and the price will be much higher.”

However, on the Carfax pages that are included in their eBay ad, a little bit of the mystery is solved. Carfax says the Corvette’s tire condition and pressure were checked at 366 miles on Dec. 17, 2009 at Maxie Price Chevrolet in Loganville, Georgia. A purchase was then reported to the Georgia Department of Motor Vehicles a day later, and the title (number 772961100068040) was issued or updated, the first owner reported, and a loan or lien reported – all on Jan. 6, 2010. Since then, Carfax says it has received no more information about the car. It’s like this Corvette fell off the face of the Earth until recently.

That makes us speculate that perhaps the eccentric first owner decided to store the car after driving it just 354 more miles, surmising that it might be worth a lot more some day in the future as an “almost never driven, like new” Corvette. Then maybe he paid the car off before dying and no one in his family knew about the storage unit and the “abandoned” car inside. You’d think that some research today could turn up the original owner and the lienholder to see if the lien is still on the car, though.

Regardless of what happened in the past, the current seller claims the car is “perfect” now – or at least it was before picking up scratches on both sides of the bumpers and a small crack on the right bumper just from being transported, apparently by a rather clumsy transport company.

This Corvette would be a “perfect track car” or a “collector’s item,” the seller boasts, proclaiming it to be the “lowest mileage Z06 in the country – and maybe the world!!!!!” with the original tires still on the car.

“Only thing we have done to the car is change the fluids,” concludes the seller, who runs an automotive shop. He says he was planning to do a title abandonment “but if we do that, the price of the car will go significantly higher.”

Again, we’re a little suspicious of this car, but if someone is willing to do his homework and definitely find out the car doesn’t have a sordid past and won’t be stripped away from him by the courts, by all means it could be a great barn find (or storage unit find). Perhaps someone at the Maxie Price dealership could provide some more insight into this mystery.

We don’t know the particular option package on this Z06, but a quick search on Autotrader this morning unearthed a similar-looking 2009 black Z06 with the 3LZ package and just 1,325 miles, at the asking price of $45,900. Other 2009 Z06s with less than 15,000 miles ranged in price from $38,930 to $47,997.

The bids are nowhere near that high as of now on this mysterious barn find, so someone could get a good deal. Nevertheless, we’d just hate to buy this black beauty and find out that it wasn’t a legitimate deal.

  1. Lein time! A lein/loan was reported 8+ years ago. Is it paid off? That’s the obvious 1st question. And the owner states it will be worth “so much more” with a title? A bit more for sure.

  2. Seller’s threat of a much higher price is really the only thing you need to know to stay away from this one . . .

  3. Now it has a diminished value since it the front and rear fenders had been damaged by the transport company. There goes about $10000 off the value?
