[VIDEO] Sound and Fury: The 2018 Corvette ZR1 on the Nurburgring

There is a new video uploaded today from the YouTuber named Carspotter Jeroen that shows the big-wing variant of the 2018 Corvette ZR1 on the track at the Nurburgring in Germany. I’m pretty sure this footage was captured earlier this year as one of the clips in the video matches a segment that Jeroen uploaded to Instagram in April.

There is absolutely nothing new here, but it’s still fun to watch. The sound from ZR1 is amazing, partly because it’s wearing the directional exhaust fittings to push the sound away from any track monitors, but also because we could have an estimated 750 horsepower on tap if the rumors stay true.

As we expected, the 2018 Corvette ZR1 was a no-show at Road America. It doesn’t make much sense to show it off now as won’t be built for another six months. If Chevy is planning on an IMSA race date for the launch, we think Road Atlanta for Petit Le Mans (Chevrolet is a track sponsor) would be chosen over Laguna Seca as some key Corvette people are not on the guest list for the Corvette Racing Banquet at Monterey in September. Call me crazy, but we don’t see a new Corvette launch happening without Harlan Charles being in the house.

Our best guess for the 2018 ZR1 reveal is at the 2018 NAIAS in Detroit in early January. But don’t discount the Los Angeles Auto Show in November. It’s been a while since Corvette has shown a new car out west and the racing/speed culture of the west coast could just be the perfect locale to mark the return of the King.

However, we do think this will still be a 2018 model and hopefully production will start at the newly renovated Bowling Green Assembly Plant in the Spring. The dealers would like to see some separation between the availability of the 2018 ZR1 and the mid-engine C8 Corvette as there is a better chance to sell two cars versus just one of the two if they are launched too closely together.

As always, stay tuned to CorvetteBlogger.com for the latest!
