[PICS] 2017 Corvette Z06 Spotted With No Visible Exterior Changes for Increased Cooling

Last month the Corvette Team let it be known that the cooling issues that have plagued the Corvette Z06 on the track are being addressed with new updates starting on the 2017 models.

Tadge Juechter, Corvette Chief Engineer told automotive journalists gathered to drive the new Grand Sport that “We’ve redesigned the top of the supercharger for better flow through the intercooler for better cooling on the track for days like this and we’re adding additional cooling content for the car.”

For many, that implied a new hood and larger vents to increase airflow to the engine.

However, those changes don’t appear to be visible at least from the outside as pictures of a 2017 Corvette Z06 captured at a restaurant last night in Bowling Green show.

The 2017 Z06 was spotted by John (aka elegant) and Jeremy (aka jagamajajaran), two knowledgeable Corvette enthusiasts from the Stingray Forums who are in town to watch the building of Jeremy’s 2017 Corvette Grand Sport. While out at dinner, they spotted the Z06 and realizing what they were looking at, did a complete walk around the car to confirm any noticable updates for the new model year. Here are their observations:

Tonight while in Bowling Green, “elegant” and I spotted a Z06 that proved to be a 2017 Z06 confirmed by the VIN. The photos verify this. The photos also verify that there are absolutely NO new exterior modifications to the hood or front fascia. All cooling improvements are subsequently internal of which the specifics will be revealed at a later date. I do not know when this will take place, but I am working toward providing that information from Corvettes at Carlisle this weekend if possible. Stay tuned!

The guys snagged a pic showing the VIN and the very low sequence number of #29 shows this is a very early 2017 model:

Then another walk around of the body with their cell phone flashlights looking for any clues to the mysterious new cooling power of the 2017 Corvette Z06:

The car does have a Kentucky Dealer Plate and the driver is a GM employee. Although the two claim to know the identity of the driver, they are keeping that info to themselves.

As far as other news regarding the production of Corvettes at the assembly plant, it looks like the start of production for the 2017 Corvette Z06 has been pushed back. It’s John’s opinion that the Z06s will start no earlier than the Target Production Week of September 26th although there is hope that the initial TPWs will be as early as the week of September 19th. Way back in the Spring we were told that Z06 production would start around the week of September 5th.

John also reports that the plant has yet to paint the new Black Rose Metallic exterior for retail customers. In fact, at the beginning of the NCM-led tour of the assembly plant, Black Rose Metallic is not yet on the plaque of current 2017 model year colors. Those who want the purple car will have to wait until September for the plant to start producing the new color for 2017 Corvettes.

Let’s send a big thanks to John and Jeremy for their excellent sleuthing of Corvette info while in Bowling Green!
