It’s not often we come across a Callaway Corvette on Craigslist and when we do, they are never priced as low as this. Too good to be true? Let’s take a look.
The 30 year old 1985 Callaway Corvette is listed for sale at $5950 in Nineveh, Indiana which is south of Indianapolis. The Callaway has 99,018 miles on the odometer which is an average of 3,300 miles driven per year. The car has the 4+3 manual transmission and the seller claims the car is in good condition.
There a couple of issues though. The speedometer recently quit working and the overdrive doesn’t engage. That’s probably you’re real expense right there – sorting out the transmission problem.
The seller neglected to show the interior of the car and its been our experience that C4 interiors don’t age well, but that’s all dependent on the care the car has received over the years. Another missing detail that casts a shadow over this sale is the lack of an engine photo and there is no listing of any performance numbers that any Callaway owner should be able to recite in their sleep.
Here’s the Craigslist ad in its entirety:
1985 corvette 4+3 callaway just shy of 100k miles good shape for its age runs and drives great has some scratches no cracks good tires no rust only issues i know of speedo quit working last time i had it out overdrive wont engage and the dome light switch on dash sometimes wont shut off. Any questions please ask.
Values haven’t been all that kind to the early C4 Corvettes. We checked the Hagerty Car Values Tool and found the price of a “good” condition stock 1985 Corvette to be $6,300 which sounds very reasonable. Despite its age, we would think the Callaway conversion alone should more than double that value over a stock ’85 Corvette and so for C4 Corvette lovers who would like to walk a bigger dog, this could be an opportunity.
You can find the craiglist ad here but I wouldn’t wait around as its already been posted for a few days.
