Corvettes on eBay: Famous 1965

Before there was Zeus Bronze that will debut soon on the upcoming mid-engine Corvette, there was this 1965 Sting Ray convertible that takes the color “bronze” to a whole new level.

We originally wrote this story following the sale of the Penny Corvette on eBay for $29,000. Unfortunately for the seller, that deal fell through and he has relisted it for sale with the first bid over $25,000 taking the car home. While not everyone may not be a fan of this form of car art, the bottom line, in this case, is that someone can get a real deal on this C2 Corvette for pennies on the dollar!

Corvettes from 1977 aren’t usually all that awe-inspiring, but here’s one that is definitely more eye-catching than usual.

Known as the “Grid Car,” this purple Corvette was originally designed as a showpiece mascot for a video arcade in an unnamed city. Featuring a modernistic stripe job that glows in the dark, the car sat inside the arcade to serve as the venue mascot next to the coin-operated Tron arcade game, which had debuted in 1982 and was inspired by the Disney movie “‘Tron” released the same year.

As our friend Tom Stacy says, “You can’t BoP that stat!”

Referring to the Car Corrals at Petit Le Mans, he shares that fact that the Corvette Corral is sold out (has been for months) while the GTLM class-leading Porsche Corral has plenty of parking spaces still available.

So who’s winning the real race?

Addressing IMSA, We recognize that BoP isn’t a perfect science but man does it seem to be applied in very arbitrary situations. And as long as that’s the perception, there is always going to be distrust of the process when you appear to penalize one team to help another.

And yet, despite the appearance of favoritism shown this season to a certain manufacturer, Corvette fans still show up to support their team.
