If you’re not scared of high-mileage cars, this might be a great way to get into a C4 ZR-1 on a budget.
A 1994 Corvette ZR-1 has popped up on Craigslist in Stayton, Oregon, with an asking price of just $24,000.
The catch?
This King of the Hill has traveled a whopping 109,000 miles.
Judging from the photos, though, you certainly wouldn’t know it.
The Torch Red exterior still looks shiny and well cared for, while the matching red leather interior has held up remarkably well. About the only obvious flaw we spotted inside is some dark wear on the driver’s seat bolster.
That doesn’t necessarily have to be a deal-breaker, either. A little leather dye might go a long way toward improving the appearance. I used some on my own ’96 last year with good results.
The seller doesn’t mention a restoration or repaint, so we can’t say whether the Corvette has undergone any recent cosmetic work. Whatever its history, it presents well for a car with more than 100,000 miles on the odometer.
More important is what’s sitting under the hood.
The ZR-1 is powered by the legendary 405-horsepower LT5, a 5.7-liter, all-aluminum DOHC V8 with 32 valves, paired with a six-speed manual transmission. The seller says the car “runs and drives great.”
It’s also one of just 448 ZR-1s produced for 1994, the next-to-last year for the high-performance C4.
The seller says the Corvette is in “great condition” and has a new set of tires. As a bonus, the buyer will also get an extra set of red ZR-1 wheels wearing Goodyear F1 tires.
Naturally, the 109,000 miles will probably scare off collectors looking for a low-mileage garage queen.
But that could also be what makes this car worth a look.
At $24,000, you’re getting a rare ZR-1 with the LT5 and six-speed without paying the premium that often comes with pristine, low-mileage examples. And with this many miles already showing, the next owner might actually feel comfortable doing what Chevrolet intended in the first place — driving it.
Of course, with any 32-year-old performance car showing six figures on the odometer, a thorough pre-purchase inspection and a good look at its maintenance history would be wise.
But if everything checks out, those 109,000 miles might not be something to fear.
They might be the reason someone gets to put a ZR-1 in the garage for just $24,000, or maybe even less.
