In addition to being an NBA star and a two-time Olympic Gold Medalist, Phoenix Suns guard Devin Booker is a car guy. More specifically, “Book” is a General Motors man known to treat every drive to the Mortgage Matchup Center “Purple Palace” like a private car show. His collection is a who’s who of vintage GM wares, including a 1969 K5 Blazer, multiple ’72 K5s, an ’86 Buick Grand National, a GNX, and a fleet of Impalas including a 1957, a ’58 convertible, a ’71, and at least three ’96 SSs.
He’s also fond of the C8 Corvette Z06, the flat-plane domestic exotic that Booker helped The General unveil in the early 2020s. For Booker, the cars aren’t just about style, they’re a family affair, as detailed in an excellent 2021 interview with GQ detailing his connections the Z06 reveal, “My grandpa’s very proud of me and my selections, and my dad’s helping me along the way too, because he’s collected through his years.”
Devin also sees his cars as a way to connect with older generations, saying “Once you get respect from [them], and even when I’m driving down the street, I’m getting nods from the grandmas and grandpas—there’s no feeling like that one.” Out of his entire collection, his first love and still preferred member of his stable is the copper metallic 1959 Impala convertible he calls Pretty Penny.
His affection for “Penny” served as the inspiration for the newest version of his signature shoe line from Nike. Dubbed the Book 2 “Metallic Red Bronze,” this official collaboration with Chevrolet features several shoutouts to his favorite rides. Per Nike’s listing, this collab “epitomizes dependability, with nods to Devin’s fleet of iconic Impalas… Fit for smooth speed and easy shifts.” On top of color-matching Book’s favorite car, the silhouette brings in unique highlights including a hood ornament-inspired tongue design and a leaping Impala logo on top of the famed Crossed-Flags indicating the 283 cubic-inch Small-Block V8 shared by Impalas and Corvettes of the late ’50s.
The limited-edition Chevy kicks dropped Thursday morning at a price of $155 on Nike’s SNKRS app but supplies are restricted, so you’d better floor it if you want a pair!

Maybe they will save Nike from Chapter 11…
Just…Don’t.
I have two pairs on order.
I wouldn’t want them even if they were free.
Gross. The colorway is as disgusting as the color choices GM offers for the Corvette; I don’t care if it’s a match for a disgusting-then, disgusting-now Impala color. Nor am I about to sanction Nike’s decade of behaving badly. Nor should anyone want to associate with someone who buys shoes like this–because their entire identity is how much Corvette branding they can wear on a daily basis.
The only way you’d get me to buy a Corvette colorway on a pair of shoes is a 1998 Pace Car livery on a pair of Reebok Hi-Tops with the pump.
Perfect match in a closet with a pair of Donald T. Gold sneakers.
