This dilapidated 1962 Corvette has seen far better days, but its owner in Lubbock, Texas is hoping someone out there sees what he sees — a chance to bring a fallen classic back to life.
He’s listed the car on eBay, where bidding has already climbed to $3,450 with six days remaining. The reserve hasn’t been met, but interest is growing for a project that represents both challenge and opportunity.
The listing describes a 1962 Chevrolet Corvette rolling chassis, missing its entire front end and in need of a full, ground up restoration. Years of exposure have taken their toll: the remaining fiberglass is baked and brittle, and the metal components have a heavy coat of surface rust. Still, perhaps the dry climate spared the frame from deeper corrosion, giving a determined restorer at least something still to work with.
To sweeten the deal, the seller is including a second 1962 rolling chassis, this one equipped with a 327 V8 and a 4 speed T10 transmission. The engine will need a rebuild, but it’s a period correct foundation — something not easy to find for early Corvettes.
The parts haul doesn’t stop there. The sale includes:
• A set of camel hump heads
• Edelbrock intake
• New carburetor
• New gas tank
• New rams horn exhaust manifolds
• Dash pod and gauges
• Pair of seats
• Original steering wheel
• Aftermarket hardtop
• Restorable hood
It’s definitely a jigsaw puzzle of C1 Corvette history, sold with a bill of sale and waiting for someone with the vision — and patience — to piece it together.
The 1962 model year, of course, marked the end of the first generation Corvette. Chevrolet sold 14,531 Corvettes that year, a record at the time, sending the C1 out on a high note as the newfangled C2 waited in the wings.
This particular ’62 may be a sad sight today, but few things in the Corvette world are truly beyond salvation. With two chassis, a period correct drivetrain, and a pile of original parts, the right buyer could turn this sun baked relic into something special again.
For now, it sits in Lubbock, waiting for the next bid — and the next dreamer willing to take on a piece of Corvette history. Is that you?
