A Sunfire Yellow icon with one of the most decorated pedigrees in the Corvette world is rolling onto the auction block today, as a well documented 1967 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible equipped with its original L71 427/435 hp V8 goes live on Hemmings.
This isn’t just another restored C2. It’s a car that has been judged, verified, authenticated, and celebrated at the highest levels of the NCRS — including earning the coveted Duntov Mark of Excellence, an honor achieved by only 1,216 Corvettes since the award’s creation in 1985.
To earn the Duntov award, a Corvette must score at least 97 percent at three separate NCRS events, proving its originality and “as manufactured” accuracy. This car didn’t just meet the standard — it exceeded it, scoring 98.6, 98.4, and 98.2 between 2014 and 2016. It must also get a 100% on its Performance Verification tests.
“The car was restored to factory correct perfection,” the seller notes, and the judging sheets back that up.
The restoration included:
• Rebuilds of the original, certified L71 427/435 hp V8
• Rebuild of the original Muncie four speed
• A respray in the factory 984 code Sunfire Yellow
• Correct black convertible top
• Renewed chassis, suspension, and braking systems
• Correct STD code black vinyl interior
The seller calls it “a high quality, highly authenticated example with an impeccable pedigree.”
Under the hood, the original L71 427 cu.in. V8 retains its factory correct details:
• Correct 3×2 Holley carburetion
• Correct “3904351” block casting
• Matching partial VIN 117491 on the block
• Correct JE suffix engine stamp (L71 with four speed)
• Rebuilt to factory specifications
• Correct hoses, hardware, and finishes
The drivetrain is equally authentic, featuring the original Muncie four speed and a Positraction rear axle.
The body was reportedly damage free before restoration and now wears a flawless Sunfire Yellow finish with a black stinger stripe. Chrome, trim, glass, and the convertible top all present in excellent condition.
Inside, the cockpit features:
• Correct black vinyl upholstery
• 160 mph speedometer
• Working tachometer
• AM/FM radio with reproduction FM-frequency information tag
• Fully functional lighting and gauges
Redline radials on 15 inch Rally wheels complete the period correct look.
This Corvette comes with a documentation package as impressive as its judging record:
• CCAS Engine Pad Affirmation Certificate
• NCRS Shipping Data Report (delivered new in Minneapolis)
• Original Protect O Plate
• Owner’s manual
• Sales invoices from previous purchases
• Extensive NCRS judging sheets
• Multiple Top Flight awards
• Performance Verification
• 2015 NCRS Duntov Mark of Excellence Award
The seller notes there are no known needs, calling it a “turn key collector’s vehicle with a proven record of excellence.”
Numbers matching. Duntov certified. Restored to exacting factory standards. Backed by documentation that leaves no questions unanswered.
This 1967 Corvette L71 Convertible rates as one of the most thoroughly authenticated and award winning examples to hit the market in years.
It will be sold with a clean Florida title in the owner’s name when bidding opens Friday. The Hemmings auction runs through Friday, May 29th at 5:00 pm.
