One of the most common gripes about the C4 Corvette is that it simply didn’t have the horsepower to match its sharp looks.
That criticism doesn’t apply here—not even a little.
This 1987 Corvette coupe has been transformed by Callaway into a twin turbocharged missile, one of the earliest and rarest examples of GM endorsed forced induction.
With 345 horsepower, 465 lb ft of torque, and a verified 177.9 mph top speed when equipped with the .60 overdrive gearing, this B2K Callaway made the C4 one of the fastest American cars of its era.
And now, this piece of Corvette history is being offered for $20,000 on Craigslist out of Hartford, Connecticut, not far from the place it was transformed—ironically just five dollars more than the original B2K option cost in 1987. However the ad says the car is located in Ottaway, ON Canada.
The Callaway Twin Turbo program debuted that year as RPO B2K, a dealer ordered upgrade rather than a factory installed option, and ran through 1991. Corvettes were built in Bowling Green, then shipped directly to Callaway Engineering in Old Lyme, Connecticut, where the magic happened. The first four cars received LF5 truck shortblocks, but the rest—including this one—used reworked production Corvette engines. All 1987 Callaways came with manual transmissions, and none were certified for sale in California. Of the 188 twin turbos built that year, 123 were coupes and 65 were convertibles.
This particular car is #137 of 188, and the seller calls it an “extremely rare opportunity to own the very first GM endorsed twin turbo.” It carries a clean title and remains largely original, with only two deviations from stock: a color matched targa top replacing the originally ordered blue tinted glass, and a set of vintage BBS wheels instead of the early “salad shooter” alloys.
Its backstory is equally compelling. The car reportedly spent most of its life tucked away in a New Jersey collector’s warehouse before the current owner acquired it in 2019. A professional full engine rebuild followed in 2020, and the seller says countless OEM components have been serviced since. Only “very few” minor cosmetic flaws are noted, and the odometer shows about 33,000 miles.
The listing also pays tribute to Reeves Callaway—”R.I.P. 2023″—and highlights the strong Callaway community, annual events, and affordable Hagerty insurance that make ownership even more appealing.
For anyone who’s ever dismissed the C4 as underpowered, this car stands as the ultimate rebuttal. A twin turbo, GM endorsed, Connecticut built Corvette for 20 grand? In 2026, that sounds mighty tempting to us.
Editor’s Note
As with pursuing any Corvette for sale online, do your homework and work hard to verify that that car and the seller are real. There is no phone number attached to the ad, and my internal scam detector is elevated based on the price, condition, and actual location of the car.
