If you need yet another reason not to drink and drive, take a look at this Arctic White C8 Corvette coupe—because nothing grabs attention like a supercar wearing police colors. And in Suffolk County, New York, it’s grabbing plenty.

The car first appeared online when CMJ Enterprises in Lindenhurst posted photos of the freshly wrapped Corvette on April 26, proudly announcing: “Say hello to our little friend! Check out this Corvette recently wrapped by us for Suffolk PD!” The coupe wears full Suffolk County Police livery, but with one key twist: the bold words “DWI SEIZURE” splashed across the doors.

That detail alone set off a firestorm.

“Tax dollars hard at work,” one commenter grumbled. “How much did this cost the county?” another demanded.

Before long, CMJ had heard enough.

The shop fired back in all caps, clearly done with the assumptions: “THE COUNTY DID NOT PAY FOR THIS VEHICLE. WE REPEAT, THE COUNTY DID NOT PAY FOR THIS VEHICLE AND IN FACT ACTUALLY SAVED THE TAXPAYERS MONEY!” They went on to clarify that the Corvette was seized under local DWI laws—something the giant lettering on the rear bumper already made clear.

“SOME DRUNK GUY bought this,” CMJ added. “You should be thanking him for his donation!”

That didn’t stop the peanut gallery from chiming in with their own brand of commentary.

Bradley Marolf: “I will purposely get pulled over so I can talk to the officer about the car.”
Daniel Boyle: “Did Speed Racer get a DWI??”
Jo Ann Alaimo Weihs: “How is it determined who gets assigned to drive this baby? Rock, paper, scissors?!”

Others questioned whether the C8 Corvette police car would ever actually be used for police work.

Turbine Chaz: “Like the Mustang, the Corvette is neither approved nor authorized for use in pursuit duty.”

Still, the car’s presence alone is enough to make drivers sit up straight—and maybe ease off the gas a little. And while Suffolk County Police haven’t officially commented on the Corvette yet, they did tell Newsday that an announcement is coming.

Meanwhile, some commenters are already imagining the interstate rivalry.

Justin Charles: Florida Highway Patrol has some east coast competition!”

Whether it ends up as a PR tool, a parade car, or simply a rolling reminder of what a DWI can cost you, one thing is certain: this Corvette has already done its job. It got people talking—and thinking.

And if the goal was to make an impression, well… mission accomplished.

  1. why not , every gov employee i know drives a tax payer purchased vehicle for their jobs and personal business and we buy their gas and pay their insurance , too

  2. I think seizing a vehicle is way out of line. Give the person his suspension, his fine and jail time as needed. A vehicle seizure could adversely affect his whole family and that is cruel and unjust. I do not condone DWI nor do I condone excessive power.

  3. Hey, why stop at seizing someone vehicle, why don’t you take their 401k, their home, their bank accounts, and a pound of flesh you bunch of Nazi’s!

  4. what is the point?

    can’t use it to chase anybody down, cannot transport a perp anywhere, can’t park it anywhere safely in public, fiendishly expensive to maintain and repair;

    like using an SR-71 to mail a letter;

  5. Drug enforcement seizure? Sure. DWI seizure? Hell no. File this one next to “civil forfeiture”.

    All that the PD is doing is showcasing that sane people should stay the F away from their jurisdiction; because individuals will have their private property seized with little to no recourse.

    And the use-case for this is even less compelling. Can’t be used for enforcing anything. Drug bust cars could at least be used for deterring use/sale of drugs. This? This is just saying that the PD will use any excuse to take your own stuff. If anything, the PD should have just sent it anonymously to auction. Though I still think that’s overreach.

    Permanent license revoke? Ok. But then the car gets the registration revoked and the owner is forced to sell. And ONLY THEN, if the owner is driving it again (with revoked license and revoked registration) should seizure be appropriate.

  6. As the public gets more critical of police aggression in the US, some programs that have flown under the radar for decades are now governing more scrutiny. One of those programs that allows police to keep most of the property they seize from people they suspect used in a crime- even of the people are never charged with anything. This is called civil asset forfeiture, and it’s encouraged by most state governments-and by the federal government as well. Now, this practice has turned into a massive “slush fund” for local cops-one that gets used for every from buying armored cars and military weapons to $600 coffee makers and party clowns. Thanks, Ray
