Corvettes for Sale: 1991 Corvette ZR-1 with Greenwood Kit Offered on eBay

The C4 ZR-1 has always carried one lingering criticism: for a Corvette that cost nearly twice as much as a base model, it didn’t look twice as special.

This particular 1991 ZR-1—now up for auction on eBay in Midland, North Carolina with a full Greenwood body kit—was supposed to fix that. Judging by the BarnFinds.com peanut gallery, though, the cure might’ve been worse than the disease.

The car itself has lived a long, honest life. Bright Red, 112,000 miles, revived after a long sleep with new starter, battery, tires, injectors, pumps, fluids, and a cleaned tank. It runs well, shifts cleanly, and carries a clean Carfax. The LT5 under the hood—Chevy and Lotus’s all aluminum, quad cam moonshot—still gives the car its aura. But the Greenwood kit? That’s where the story gets interesting.

The seller admits the add on panels show stress cracks and scrapes. The factory body underneath is straight, the paint shines, and the car is mechanically turnkey. But the Greenwood pieces dominate the first impression, and onlookers didn’t hold back.

mustang melvin was first to swing the hammer:

“Remove all that garbage from the bottom of the car, clean it up, and turn it into one of the coolest dailys on earth.”

To him, the Greenwood kit wasn’t a styling choice—it was a problem to be solved.

hairyolds68 doubled down:

“This has to be the easiest package to install that will kill the look of a Corvette for sure.”

If the ZR-1 was once the King of the Hill, this crowd seemed convinced someone had dressed the king in a Halloween costume.

But not everyone was ready to throw stones.

bobhess stepped in with a calmer take:

“I like it. Plenty of unmodified examples out there if you don’t like the body mods. Somebody liked it because there it is.”

A fair point—every modded car is, at minimum, a love letter from a past owner.

Wayne offered the most diplomatic verdict:

“I just love ZR1s. The Greenwood package adds interest. But not an improvement over stock. But if this were to end up on my driveway, it could stay as long as possible.”

And then came Nelson C, who delivered the most cutting line of the entire thread:

“Took one look and completely missed that it’s a ZR-1.”

For a car whose entire identity is wrapped around its LT5 pedigree, that one had to sting.

The irony is rich: the ZR-1 was engineered to be the Corvette that finally looked as serious as it performed. Lotus designed engine. Mercury Marine assembly. 375 horsepower in 1991. A six speed manual. Wider rear bodywork. Unique tail panel. It was the Corvette that didn’t need help standing out.

And yet someone, years ago, decided it did.

Now the car sits at auction, reserve unmet, waiting for a bidder who sees potential—either in restoring the factory lines or doubling down on the Greenwood look. The mechanicals are sorted, the interior is shockingly clean for the mileage, and the LT5 remains one of the most fascinating American engines ever built.

Whether the next owner chooses to peel off the fiberglass armor or embrace it, the ZR-1 underneath is still the same car that once made the world rethink what a Corvette could be.

And maybe that’s the real charm here: a misunderstood king, wearing a controversial crown, still ready to rule the backroads.

  1. In the collector world, that mileage is a killer. I had an incredibly nice ‘95 pace car. Couldn’t give it away.

  2. Miles and body crap make it a low $20s car. Probably a lot of hidden issues and a paint job in the future.
