As we discussed yesterday, GM is holding a series of meetings at its annual automotive conference in Las Vegas and we’ve been hoping to hear some details coming about the future of the C8 Corvette line-up. This morning I see that our wishes may have come true!
A post from ZR1_M7 on Instagram appears to be backing up the rumors we’ve heard from our insiders which is that both the Grand Sport and a Grand Sport X (formerly known as the E-Ray) will be introduced for the 2027 model year. He also puts out an unconfirmed rating of 720 HP for the Grand Sport X, which would feature the new LS6 V8 engine paired with the E-Ray’s front electric motor.

Let’s take a look at that horsepower number. If that’s the case and the Grand Sport X comes in at 720 HP, we can then back into two figures for the GEN6 LS6. If the GSX is getting the same electric motor as the Corvette ZR1X which is rated at 186 HP, that would mean the LS6 would come in at 534 HP. That falls within the estimates of 525-550 HP in our reader poll. However, if the Grand Sport X retains the E-Ray’s 160-hp electric motor, that means even more horsepower from the LS6 at 560 HP! Either way, it’s a win/win for the Grand Sport and the Grand Sport X, as well as the Stingray which is rumored to get the new LS6 as well.
I can’t stress how important this news is to the C8 Corvette lineup which will be going on seven years of production with the 2027 model year. While the latest reveals over the last two years have been highlighting the ZR1 and the ZR1Xs supercar performance, it’s great to see that we are getting back to talking about models which are more affordable for most Corvette enthusiasts once again.
As for the E-Ray name, it served its purpose from 2024-2026, but this car should do so much better now that it’s been unleashed from the “E” and is now more closely associated with the heritage of the Grand Sport and the “X” from the ZR1X. That car is kicking ass and taking names as the World’s quickest car as tested by Hagerty.

Please remove the hood vent. Ruins the clean lines of the Eray.
The hood vent is only on the ZR-1 series cars, which need extra cooling for the turbo engine.
As far as the LS6, even if it’s 560 HP for street use that’s little more than bragging rights. I can’t use all 500 of the HP in my current Stingray except on very rare occasions. I don’t really want anything wider, and the HP figure by itself isn’t enough to make me spring for a new one. But I’m sure lots and lots of owners of early C8s will be trading “up” to a new one. It’ll be a great time to snatch a used C8 at a bargain price.
BoS should remove the “O” from his handle, as that is much more appropriate to the level of credibility he has.
Also, the uncalled-for hatred of the E-Ray name is gale-force. I have never seen so many window-lickers absolutely rail against the “E-Ray” while fawning all over the “Grand Sport X”. True degenerates.

I always thought the “E-Ray” name is great. It got into trouble when the US simply gave EV dominance to China for sky high gas prices.
It’s hilarious to see people fall over themselves praising the GS-X yet not expressing any enthusiasm (and even hatred) of the E-Ray. It’s fundamentally the same car. The haters of the E-Ray never complained that it didn’t have enough power. It was all about the “electric” aspect of it, which is the same as the GS-X. I will gladly complement a GS-X owner’s car with “hey, nice E-Ray!”
Wonder if they will keep the E-Ray’s rear hatch emblem on the GS-X? It would be a nice a nice transitional Easter egg. We love ours.
With all these models of Corvette that means that there probably won’t be a Zora model ?
Will the increased horsepower of the Grand Sport with an LS6 encroach on the 0-60mph times of the Z06 and former E-Ray? The larger displacement in a naturally aspirated car should get better times than the Z06.
