Corvettes for Sale: 23K-Mile 1999 Corvette FRC Offered on Craigslist

When the C5 Corvette arrived in 1997, it didn’t take long for whispers to spread through the Corvette community. Rumor had it that Chevrolet was cooking up a lighter, more affordable, more hard-edged variant aimed squarely at performance purists.

Those rumors became reality in 1999 with the debut of the Fixed Roof Coupe — the FRC — a stripped down, stiff backboned version of the C5 equipped exclusively with a 6-speed manual, the Z51 handling package, and almost no frills. It lasted only two model years, but its legacy lived on: the FRC chassis became the foundation for the fire breathing Z06 that arrived in 2001.

That short production run — just 6,121 cars — has made clean FRCs increasingly hard to find. Which is why this Torch Red example in Manchester, New Hampshire, stands out like a beacon. With only 23,028 original miles, this ’99 is one of the freshest, most meticulously kept FRCs to surface in years, and the seller insists it still drives and looks like a car half its age.

From the moment you walk up to it, the car checks every box collectors crave. The Torch Red paint still carries a showroom shine, the black leather interior remains crisp, and the factory 5 spoke aluminum wheels complete the classic late ’90s look. A clean Carfax backs up its accident free history, but the real story is the care it has received — the kind of attention that borders on obsessive.

Under the hood sits the familiar LS1 5.7 liter V8, originally rated at 345 horsepower and 350 lb ft of torque. This one breathes a little easier thanks to an X pipe and a dyno tune, now putting 305 horsepower and 315 lb ft to the rear wheels. Aside from a black Hurst shift knob and a removable trunk partition — the original knob is included — the car remains factory correct, right down to the passive keyless entry system that still works flawlessly.

The maintenance history reads like a checklist for long term preservation. The AC system was overhauled and recharged in 2022 and blows ice cold. Continental tires were installed in 2021. Spark plugs, wires, and all fluids were replaced in 2022. Window regulators were updated in 2021, and a new battery went in last year. The undercarriage is described as “extremely clean,” and the paint remains in “incredible shape.” Even the interior shows only the lightest signs of use.

The FRC has always been the enthusiast’s Corvette — 80 pounds lighter and 12% stiffer than a coupe with the roof panel in place, with gearing and suspension tuned for spirited back road driving. It was more akin to a convertible with a hardtop that was permanently bolted and bonded in place, featuring the same external trunk as the roadster. This example appears to embody that spirit perfectly.

“It still drives and handles like new,” the seller says. “Very fun to drive with plenty of performance. Still looks brand new when you walk up to it.”

Collectors will appreciate the documentation as much as the condition. The car comes with two sets of keys and fobs, the original window sticker — showing a final price of $39,122 with just $345 in options ($305 for six-way driver power seat, $15 for parcel net, and $25 for color-keyed front floor mats with carpet inserts), full maintenance receipts, a dyno sheet and video, and additional photos including undercarriage shots.

The asking price is $22,995, or best reasonable offer. The seller is willing to assist out of state buyers but makes one point clear: no trades and no lowball offers.
