Over the last few weeks, there has been a lot for the Corvette Nation to be excited for regarding Corvette’s future. Thanks to Rick Conti’s recent video that was unfortunately taken down (an act that once again reinforces the Streisand Effect), not only did we get to hear the sound and rumble of the new Sixth-Gen engine for the Corvette Grand Sport, we also learned that the engine will assume the legendary LS6 designation.
This comes on top of recent reporting suggesting that GM is building two V8s for the Gen-IV family – a 6.6 Liter and 5.7 Liter – that will be shared by the Corvette as well as a number of trucks in Chevy’s portfolio.
At least that’s what we thought, and then I took a phone call yesterday that changes everything!
The GM Parts Book has been a constant source of leaks for the Corvette team over the years, and there is no more of an authority than GM’s own parts division. The GM Parts Book is a proprietary listing off all parts that a technician might need for diagnosing and fixing GM vehicles. It’s only for GM Technicians and it’s not something you find that is available on the internet.
Back in 2023, a leak from the Parts Book confirmed that the C8 ZR1’s LT7 V8 engine was a 5.5-liter turbocharged V8 and it was listed with the following description: “ENGINE GAS, 8 CYL, 5.5L, DI, VVT, AFM, SC TURBO, DOHC.” As we said at the time, that leak really helped bring the engine into focus as it included direct injection, variable valve timing and active fuel management.
Now we have another leak from the latest GM Parts Book. This comes from the same person who gave us the heads up on the ZR1’s LT7 and now he has some fantastic intel for the 2027 Corvette Grand Sport. According to JMB56 on the MidEngineCorvetteForum.com, he found this listing for the LS6 within GM’s Parts Book and took this photo for us:

Breaking this down for clarity, GM is telling us that the LS6 will be a 6.7-liter Generation Six 8-Cylinder Aluminum Overhead Valve engine with both Direct Injection and Port Fuel Injection.
JMB56 tells us that the previous ZR1 leak was found under a listing of future models, but GM appeared to learn their lesson about including future Corvette models ahead of their release. However, he says this leak was found under a listing of future RPOs (regular production option codes) for the 2027 model year.
We then with help from our friends at the MidEngineCorvetteForum, we took this new information about the LS6 to a person close to GM, and it was confirmed by our source that the LS6 is indeed a 6.7 liter V8 and not the much publicized 6.6-liter as was previously believed.
While I have some additional ideas about this new engine and its capabilities, that would be speculation on our part, and I don’t detract from this real news above which now has been doubly confirmed.

I don’t believe you read that correctly. The listing shows “OHV”, NOT “OHC”. I assume that means that it is an overhead valve engine.
Does this mean that the Beach Boys song, 409, will be re-released?

Does the lack of DFM in the description mean that the dreaded afm/dfm was dropped from this engine ?? God I hope so…
Can’t wait for the reveal. Hopefully the new manual transaxle is made for this car. I dont drive stick anymore but I know the love for it is real.

Thanks for correcting the article to read “overhead valve engine” instead of your earlier description of the new engine as an “overhead cam” engine.
Well that’s about 402 CID. Based on HP per liter of the 6.2 should be about 525 HP.

It should be MSRP priced between the base C8 StingRay at $71,995 and the E-Ray $110,595. So, it should start around $90k. An incredible performance value.
Well let’s look some more in that parts book for the Tremec 6 speed manual so the heads of all the deniers explode. Porsche brought back the manual with success.
Why is it an “LS” rather than an “LT”? I thought the former does not have VVT.
The correct displacement is about 402 C.I. Whether it’s 402 or 409, that’s big block cubic inches. It’s going to be a torque MONSTER.
Okay, enough already. Have I missed the estimated hp? I’ve been reading as fast as I can run.
