A few weeks back we ran an eye-opening video from our friend Justin at HorsePower Obsessed who had learned that Chevrolet was equipping European export C8 Corvettes with a special set of air deflectors. These OEM air deflectors are mounted under the car and provide a blast of cold air into your C8 Corvette’s engine bay. After installing them on his C8 Z06, Justin used a hand-held laser temperature gauge and found the air deflectors did indeed reduce thermal temps significantly throughout his Z06’s engine bay and trunk.

We’ve done some digging on this, and it turns out the reason that the European exports are receiving these underbody air deflectors is due to the exports having gas particulate filters that are required in the European Union. These particulate filters, which are attached to the corner-mounted exhausts, can get extremely hot and so the addition of the air deflectors on the export models helps to counteract that additional heat.

GM’s supply of these air deflectors were already low and now with interest in them being sky high, the Chevrolet parts departments are saying the pair of deflectors are on a national backorder until at least early next year.
