  1. The radar detectors offered today are for the benefit of the manufacturers. Any detector is merely a tool in being careful and does not provide immunity. The battery operated detector went away since it wasn’t profitable for the manufactures’ though it was great for users. Easy to install, easy battery replacement and enough detection to make it useful. Now, the detector manufacturers want something wired by a shop which charges in the thousands. The manufacturers also give all kinds of reasons for why a battery operated detector can’t work. Maybe they should refine that product, sell them and remain in business.
