One of my fondest Corvette memories is a 1970s magazine article with photos of custom C2 Sting Rays, including one that looked very similar to this custom ’65 convertible up for sale in Texas through Tuesday on eBay.
So far, the highest offer of $29,900 has not met the reserve.
Originality won’t be a concern for the new owner as that ship sailed long ago. We actually like the look of the small ducktail rear spoiler and the bumperless Mako Shark front end with the headlight covers molded shut. The hardtop gives this car a neat retro look, but the soft top frame is still in place so new canvas would be needed.
The floors don’t seem to be rusted out, and a new set of carpets would do wonders for the interior, which features button-tufted bucket seats that look to be in good shape. The dash is decent, too, with all the gauges and radio still in place.
The seller believes a period-correct high-performance 327 V8 engine resides under the hood and says it’s mated with a four-speed manual transmission.
Of course, what really sets this car apart from the crowd is that custom gold and brown paint job. It’s too bad that it appears to be in bad shape, though what would you think about the idea of just clear coating it to preserve the cool look?
There’s just something about this car that catches my eye. How about you?

…….clear coating it to preserve the cool look? BARF!
This car catches my eye but mostly only for all the wrong reasons. In particular I think the C3 L-88 style hood looks totally out of place on it and I don’t care for the two big headlights sticking out of the grille that you can see if you look at the eBay ad. Also I’m with Ronnie about just clear coating over the shitty looking gold and brown paint. That would be a big NO to that!!!

67 front fenders, period correct engine probably, incorrect seat, what a mess. Would cost a fortune to make it correct. Can’t see much else. Would be a good candidate for a restomod. I had a 67 427 ,so I know. Oops…the hood scoop is a big block hood from the early 70’s. Totally misrepresented in the ad. I would be careful.
My first was a 65 in 1971 ,it was a purple with button and tuck k interior and had 3 inch flares over the wheels .When I took it home my dad said ” can you take it back ?” . I kept the car a while and traded it for a 1970 green with green interior Monte Carlo SS . I was 18 at the time and even then I knew I messed up trading off the 65 Corvette . Now I am 70 and recently bought a 63 ragtop rewith red interior and all matching numbers .I have pulled and started disassembled the 327 and found the original steel head gaskets under the cylinder heads . Now my project is on hold due to can impending hip replacement .I also have a 79 Corvette I am restoring for my grandson and that one is also on hold till after the hip is done . I bought a 96 a couple years ago for a friend that lives on an RV lot on the back of my property . He is recovering now from his hip replacement but will give me a hand on the two I am currently building . Once you get the Corvette bug it sticks with you . When I had my 65yearsago I met and was friends with Leo Thomas , he was a bodyman that worked for GM and laid up the first Corvettes by hand before there were chopperguns used to build the body’s by spraying them into molds .Leo also taught me fiberglass work .
For some reason I see this being repainted in large metal flake in Gold,
like speed boats !
Seems that someone needs to do their homework..as a 1965 Corvette did not have “steel” floors..thus NO RUST THRU!!!!!! All fiberglass.
Ii like my 67 better.
