If you’re looking for bang for your buck and the 2026 ZR1 is still too pricey for you, you might want to take a look at this C4 ZR-1 being offered on Craigslist for just $14,500.
Granted, the performance of this black-on-black 1991 Corvette supercar with 375 horsepower isn’t anywhere near the 1,250 of the new ZR1X, but the owner of this classic variety still calls it “a very fun driver.”
He says he doesn’t like seeing it sit because he just doesn’t have the time for it right now, so he’s ready to send it to another home. He does, however, open the door to a possible trade for a Pro3, Formula Mazda, or other road racing car or even a Miati. He’s willing to add cash for the right car.
In case you’re worried about the condition of the engine after 80,000 miles, don’t forget that back in 1989, Chevy broke a 50-year-old 24-hour endurance speed record with a ZR-1.
This one has headers and a new 3-inch exhaust, an ECU tune by Marc Halbeck, and recent tires, shocks, and brakes. The seller says the Selective Ride Control even works “great.”
On the other hand, it’s hard to tell from the long-distance photos, but the paint definitely needs attention as the seller candidly admits it is not a show car and has indeed suffered “GM clear coat failure.” The interior also isn’t perfect, but the one photo with the listing doesn’t show any ripped or torn upholstery so it actually seems to have held up well over the decades.
As one of the 2,044 ZR-1s built in the second year of production, this ZR-1 is definitely worth saving, and it actually seems to have plenty of exciting days left in the legendary LT5 engine with four overhead cams and 32 valves. Engineered by GM and Lotus, it was assembled in Oklahoma by Mercury Marine and shipped to Bowling Green for installation.
