With the release of the Corvette Nürburgring times today, I wanted to get the perspective of some different voices including those who have track experience. Austin from Speed Phenom fits that bill, and his video features a side-by-side of watching the ZR1X Performance Data Recorder video and then commenting on what he sees as the car makes its way around the 12.9-mile track.
One of the reasons that the automotive manufactures test at the Nürburgring is that that track layout offers so many different challenges. The ZR1X showcased its ability to maintain high speeds through tight corners and then when coming out of those turns, it hits hard with a burst of speed on any of the straights that allows it to stretch its legs. Even as a longtime Corvette enthusiast, I am still blown away at seeing how fast the ZR1X accelerates, and it’s even more in your face when watching the PDR video where the speedometer is constantly moving between 140-180 mph.
One other point with this video is that the 2026 Corvette ZR1X features the new interior with different gauges. For the 2026 Corvette, the PDR video is different than the 2020-2025 C8 PDR overlays that we’ve become accustomed to seeing. While watching the PDR video, one of the things I wanted to see the charging/discharging info for the ZR1X’s hybrid battery pack which is at the bottom of the screen. The hybrid front motor disconnects once the car hits 160 mph, but then heavy breaking for a corner insures that the battery stays ready to assist the front wheels at the lower speeds.
All-in-all, the ZR1X’s lap time of 6:49.275 is a very positive outcome considering the time and expenses that manufacturers from the USA have to face when attempting a ‘Ring record lap time. With that lap record time, the ZR1X was able to outperform both the Mustang GTD and the Porsche 911 GT3 RS and in the end, that’s all that matters.

Maybe the proposed rumored real “Zora” will take fastest in the world there someday, who knows.!
I am a dyed in the wool Vette guy, but it is incredible how fast the Porsche GT3 RS (and 911 Turbo) are with such less horsepower, credit where credit is due.
So cool that the ZR1X and ZR1 are now America’s 1 and 2 place holders at the Ring, they are awesome machines.!

1) The video would have been better if you had given the NAMES of each of the 37 MAJOR corners or regions on the ‘Ring (not all 154!). Yes, I’ve driven the ‘Ring.
2) The 500 HP Porsche 911 GT3 RS came within about a second of the 1050 HP Corvette ZR1X because it has a lower COM height (11 inches vs 17.5 inches); lower aerodynamic resistance; and a more advance suspension set-up. We’ve got to get off this horsepower kick! That’s only unambiguously good for DRAGSTERS! HP simply is not as influential on curvy road courses. Corvette has some work to do the clean up its air-resistance issues and front-end traction problems.
3) I was shocked to learn the ZR1X becomes simply an overweight ZR1 because the EV-portion of that car [ZR1X] can’t handle the duration of the track! So, the ZR1X’s performance during the latter half of the course is WORSE than that of the ZR1, — and overall it is better by simply “coasting on its laurels” from earlier on. Who’d want a car that did that?
4) Note that the weight-to-power ratio of the two are NOT that greatly different: 3.43 for the ZR1 and 3.28 for the ZR1X. With some cleaned-up aerodynamics and suspension adjustments, it is possible that the ZR1 would be about equal tp ZR1X in N-burgring lap times.

what does this kid know about anything? his daddy having too much money doesn’t qualify for anything.
The 911 GT3 RS time was beaten, true.
However, the street legal 911 GT2 RS MR (Manthey-Racing) with only 700 HP turned in a 6:40.3 back in 2018.
