[VIDEO] Mark Reuss Tells Jay Leno There is More to Come on C8 and C9 is In the Works


One of the must watch videos to drop last week on the reviews of the 2025 Corvette ZR1 was this video with Jay Leno and GM President Mark Reuss. This drive video is actually part 2 of their visit together with the Competition Yellow ZR1 as Mark and car were in Jay Leno’s Garage way back in August 2024 where they did the garage talk in part 1.

This driving video is fun to watch as it’s so different from the COTA track videos where the official ride and drive was held. Here, Jay and Mark are driving the roofless Split Window Coupe on the streets and Jay just can’t help himself from getting on the throttle for short bursts, or a quick blast across a bridge somewhere in the greater Los Angeles area. He’s driving it exactly as any of us would. At one point, he turns to Mark and says this new ZR1 makes his 638-hp 2009 ZR1 feel like a car from the 1950s.

Jay always has a way of asking direct questions to the GM team, and he did it here several times. In Part 1, he asked Mark is Chevrolet would ever be split off from Chevy and be on its own. To that, Mark stated that Corvette would always be a part of Chevrolet.

At about 16:35 into this video, Jay asks Mark pointedly if there is “a C9 in the wind somewhere?” Mark replies that “Yes, there’s a C9 and I guess you know C9 will be a next gen Corvette, right?” But then Mark adds the following about the current generation saying, “But C8 has legs yet in terms of more part of the family of C8…so more to come. We’re not done ringing out C8.”


With the C8 Corvette ZR1 released, we now believe the ZORA will be up next, although there has been a lot of chatter that perhaps the ZORA won’t be its own model, but an option on the ZR1 that may or may not be called the ZR1e. Then there is the much-rumored Grand Sport that will likely follow and could be here as soon as 2027. In addition to those upcoming models, we might also see a new Gen-6 small block V8 later this decade.

Is there anything else the Corvette Nation would like to see come after that? How about light-weighted Z06X model for dedicated track days? Or a Safari-style C8 Corvette for off road adventures or for those who have to deal with dirt roads? Let us know your thoughts in the comments!

    I understand that you and others are not fond of the C8 rear width. As a C8 Z06 owner I am very pleased with how my car looks from the rear and would not want it changed. To each his own. I look forward to the Zora which I hope to see in my garage.

    Al – On the manual transmission, all 6 of my previous Corvettes have been manual, and I do miss it occasionally. But the C8 DCT is quite amazing and I’m happy with that too.

  9. 10k Safari/Rally package option for all C8’s. 1,000 AWHP and a 2″ lift in a HTC is like THE perfect sports car of all time.

  10. As Reuss senior worked the turbo Buick, Mark must feel good about this latest iteration of the ‘8’. And when they talked about hybrid tech., I always reminded some of my inquiring friends that GM’s Electro-Motive train division had a PHEV tech all those years ago with a diesel engine being a generator that produced electrical power to run the electric motored trucks (wheel driving packages) that propelled the engine….hence the name; ‘Electro-Motive’.. Jay knows, that egonomicly, the Corvette has no equal. As an ex GM employee, I’m glad a verified expert like Leno appreciates the ‘Company Car’.

  11. The safari/rally would be the SUV Corvette. Interior luxury of a Benz, exterior with the aggressive look of a Uris and the power of the ZR1.
