If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.
That old adage is usually a positive motivator, but not so much when it comes to a recent case involving the theft of a C7 Corvette in Missouri.
It all started more than a week ago when a neighbor scared away thieves as they tried to take a Blade Silver 2018 Grand Sport in Kansas City’s Waldo area.
The bad guys weren’t content to just leave empty-handed, though, and started firing bullets through the air, some of which hit nearby cars and houses.
Early last Thursday, the thieves apparently returned to the same neighborhood and were able to successfully steal the Corvette this time.
A woman who lives in a house that was struck multiple times by bullets during the first incident says fortunately no one was injured either time, but naturally she’s still upset.
“I bought this house eight and a half years ago and we’ve never had anything like this,” Marlene Standley told KMBC News in Kansas City. “The boldness that they’re doing now, they came back to the exact same place.”
In that second successful attempt, neighbor Megan Hogan says the thieves pointed guns at the home of the Corvette’s owner after the car alarm went off before they were able to race away in the GS.
“Something has to change,” said Hogan, who gave 911 a play-by-play of the theft as it was happening. She said it took about 15 minutes for police to arrive.
She called the crime “a public safety crisis,” pointing out that “we have people scared in their homes and bullets are flying into their homes.”
KMBC says police are investigating the theft of the Corvette, part of a growing trend of car thefts and property crimes in Kansas City.
Anyone with information about this theft, or who knows where the car is, is asked to notify CrimeStoppers at 816-474-TIPS.

If you expect this kind of stuff to stop, they need to make it legal to defend not only yourself but your property with lethal force if necessary. Otherwise, the law is not enough of a deterrent to stop this kind of activities because criminals by definition do not obey laws.
The GS should have been on the Kansas side of Kansas City. Stand your GOUND rules apply here. Steal at your own peril here.
Pretty fucking stupid leaving the car out after the first attempt.
If you own a car like that at least have the common sense to install a kill switch to prevent theft. It’s just extra insurance. Either that or move to a safer place!!!
Judging by the pictures, this car was located in the hood. Surprised it lasted that long. Guess the perpetrators wanted the bat 🦇 wing.
Corvette was last seen being driven by 2 young White choir boys wearing graduation caps and gowns. Sure it was……
