Corvettes for Sale: 383 Stroker-Powered 1958 Corvette Offered on Bring a Trailer

Can you over-restore a Corvette, essentially turning it into a trailer queen?

Some folks believe that you can.

At least one person who checked out this 1958 Corvette being offered on Bring a Trailer believes it may have hit the sweet spot – nice but not too nice to enjoy on the open road, commenting on BaT:

“This car is an awesome driver and probably a local car show hit. But it is many, many thousands of $$ away from being NCRS quality. THAT is a good thing in my opinion because too many already exist, any 90+ point car sits on trailers and in garages. This car is meant to be enjoyed, driven, and can be tastefully further modified without concern for impacting future value. To me – this car is worth way more in the enjoyment factor than any 99point NCRS gold car.”

The seller has owned this car for nearly 50 years, having purchased it in 1977. During a body-off refurbishment between 2017 and 2022, he installed a 383 stroker V8 engine that should provide lots more go-power than the original 283 that produced either 245 or 270 horsepower.

The body and hardtop received a fresh coat of red and white paint in 2022 when the hardtop was restored by Glassworks, new chrome bumpers added, trunk rails deleted, and 1962 side spears installed. Something to keep in mind: If you want to add back the one-year-only chrome spears on the trunk, you’re looking between $3,000 to $4,000 just for the parts.

Other features include a Muskegon four-wheel disc brake system and a Flaming River chrome steering column, both added in August 2020.

Inside, a red Al Knoch dash pad, door panels, and kick panels have been installed, and a couple of other nice additions are the Vintage Air climate control system and Raingear electric windshield wipers. A MOMO steering wheel sits in front of a VHX digital gauge system, the looks of which this writer doesn’t prefer, but that’s just a matter of personal taste.

The previously mentioned 383 stroker V8 had just 4,000 miles when purchased, and other updates include a new Holley Street Demon carburetor, new Performance Flywheel from Summit Racing, new electrical wiring kit from Lectric Limited, new Hitachi Permanent Magnet High Performance Starter, and new gas tank.

The current bid sits at $47,000, with the auction slated to end in two days. How much higher do you see it climbing?
