It’s a proven fact that Corvette owners love their wheels. Whether you have a set of factory wheels on your Corvette, or went with a set from the aftermarket, you want them to look great whenever you hit the road. What Corvette owners don’t love about their wheels is the work it takes in keeping them clean and looking good. Lucky for us, our friends at GTECHNIQ have a number of products to that fight against brake dust, road grime, and other contaminants.
For a step-by-step guide to using GTECHNIQ products to clean and protect your wheels, check out their latest article on How To Clean Your Wheels.
C5 Wheel Armour
GTECHNIQ’s C5 Wheel Armour is a specialty coating designed to protect your wheels and keep them easy to clean. C5 Wheel Armour features an exceptionally fine surface rheology that creates a chemical bond with the wheel that makes it very hard for dirt, stains, and brake dust to adhere to the wheel’s surface. The C5 wheel coating will maintain its integrity with temperatures of over 1100 degrees Fahrenheit, so it’s also suitable for coating your brake calipers and exhaust tips as well.
C5 Wheel Armour is easy to apply, but for best results, consider removing each wheel first to give it a proper cleaning and prep before applying the C5 Wheel Armour to the wheels. With the wheels off the car, it makes it much easier to fully coat the inside barrel of the wheel as well as coating your brake calipers.C5 Wheel Armour will protect your wheels for up to two years, making your rims and calipers easy to clean and maintain.
For those wanting to tackle this project, we recommend GTECHNIQ’s Wheel Coating Kit offered for $64.95. The kit contains the larger 30ml bottle of C5 Wheel Armor, as well as Panel Wipe for prepping your wheels, calipers, and exhaust tips with a blend of pure alcohols and solvents that leaves a 100% decontaminated surface. Three MF1 ZeroR Microfiber Buff Cloths are also included.
W6 Iron Removing Wheel & Paint Cleaner
One thing that Corvette owners can rally together about is our hatred for brake dust. There is nothing like going on a hard drive and coming home just to see iron fallout on your calipers, wheels, and even your Corvette’s body panels. Iron fallout are hot metal fragments from your brake pad linings and rotors and they can become embedded into the paint making removal without damaging the clear coat or ceramic coating even harder.
GTECHNIQ’s W6 Iron Removing Wheel & Paint Cleaner is powerful enough to spray on your Corvette’s painted exterior and wheels to easily dissolve fallout and brake dust. While it’s removing iron fallout and other embedded paint contaminates, it also adds a corrosion inhibitor and additive designed to combat the effects of acid rain. W6 is a thick, gel-like formula that will cling to your vehicle’s wheels and vertical surfaces, and you will actually see any ferrous iron particles it comes into contact with turn purple. You only need to let the product dwell on your Corvette surface for 3-5 minutes before removal.
W6 Iron Removing Wheel & Paint Cleaner is available in three sizes and we can appreciate that GTECHNIQ offers it on their online store starting at $9.95 for a 250-ml bottle so you can effectively try out the product first without having to spend a lot. It’s also available in 500 ml, 1-liter, and 5-liter bulk packages as well.
T1 and T2 Tyre Dressings
GTECHNIQ’s T1 Durable Tyre Gel is specially formulated for your tires and black trim pieces, and will keep them looking black and spotless as it repels water. One coat of T1 will leave a natural satin finish while multiple coats will give you a high-gloss finish. T1 Durable Tyre Gel starts at $19.95 for a 250ml bottle.
The T2 Tyre Dressing is 100% biodegradable and its “no slung” formula will ensure that it doesn’t end up on your Corvette’s bodywork while driving. T2 Tyre Dressing is applied with an AP3 Dual Layered Soft Foam Applicator Pad and simply spread evenly over the tire and then remove any excess with a MF1 ZeroR Microfibre Buff Cloth. T2 Tyre Dressing is $6.95 for a 250ml bottle.
