Corvette Mike's Decorated 1967 Corvette L89 Coupe Sells for $1.7 Million at Mecum Kissimmee

It was just back in September that our friend Corvette Mike Vietro took his Marina Blue 1967 Corvette L89 Coupe to the NCRS National Convention in Hampton, Virginia. The rare 1 of 16 L89 was judged on its exterior, interior, and mechanical condition and it scored a highly-impressive 99.08 as it was awarded the Duntov Mark of Excellence.

Often called “The L88 for the street,” the L89 option added aluminum cylinder heads to the already powerful L71 427/435 tri-power V8. The aluminum cylinder heads took about 75 pounds off the front the car which improved handling, and unlike the L88, the L89 cars could be ordered with a radio and a heater. Like the fabled L88 Corvette, GM also fudged the official power rating for the L89, which was likely closer to 500-hp thanks to its enhanced airflow.

This Marina Blue L89 Coupe was assembled on the final day of 1967 Corvette production, and its one of only two L89s that was also equipped with the K19 smog equipment which was mandatory for California. It also has the F41 suspension, the M21 4-speed manual transmission, N14 side mounted exhaust, K66 transistor ignition, and J50 power brakes. The car had passed through several owners before ending up in the collection of Larry Martin in 1994, which is when Corvette Mike first learned of it. After playing the long game for 30 years, Mike was able to acquire the L89 in 2023.

The Corvette L89 Coupe was offered at Mecum Kissimmee 2025 on Friday, January 17th. We don’t know what the car finally hammered for, but the total out-the-door price with the buyers fee was $1,705,000 which was the second-highest priced Corvette to sell during the 13-day sale. Leading all Corvette sales at Kissimmee was Corvette Mike’s previous Sunfire Yellow 1967 L88 which was sold for $2,250,000

That’s an amazing price for the car. We don’t see the 1967 L89s come up for auction very often, but a quick search shows the last one sold by Mecum was a Black L89 Convertible which sold at the Orlando Summer Special 2021 for $264K.
