For decades, the Corvette has competed with Porsche, with the German brand normally taking the nod as the champion and the Chevy not earning much respect from snobby enthusiasts.
But that attitude has definitely changed with the new mid-engine C8, with U.S. News & World Report recently judging the 2025 Corvette Stingray against the 2025 Porsche 911 and declaring the Chevy to be the overall winner!

Check out these words of praise for the latest Corvette, with U.S. News calling it “a luxury sports car bargain with its accessible pricing, fantastic performance, comfortable interior and generous storage” and adding that its “extreme personality might not be for everyone, but it’s undoubtedly a solid choice in this segment.”
Corvettes have always been treated like a stepchild when it comes to the Porsche. Sure, the Corvette has a great engine and handles well, but how can you stand that terrible interior, some have argued.
No longer, though, as the Corvette lost in only one category out of the 10 areas judged by U.S. News, taking wins in Price, Seat Comfort, Cargo Space, and Acceleration and finishing in a tie in Interior Quality, Interior Features, and Ride and Handling. Porsche’s only win came in Fuel Economy.
Two categories were deemed “TBD.” A winner wasn’t declared in Safety because neither car has been crash tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety. Both, however, now include safety features like a rearview camera, forward collision warning, forward automatic emergency braking, and parking sensors, with both offering available advanced features.
Likewise, because the Porsche has not been rated for Reliability by J.D. Power, that category also earned a TBD assignment, even though the Corvette did earn an 88.
Though we’d never consider even buying a Porsche, we were humble enough to think the day might never come when our beloved Corvette would be mentioned in the same breath as Porsche when it comes to interior quality and handling.
Indeed, U.S. News may feel the same way, writing: “Surprised by this outcome? Well, if you were hoping we’d tell you to buy a Porsche 911, we won’t talk you out of it. It’s still an excellent choice even if it’s way more expensive. Even in areas where it falls short of the Corvette, it’s still good.”

The C8 is a very positive evolution for the Corvette but IMHO the long standing tradition of considering the 911 the go to competitor IMHO should have been retired a long time ago and is setting the bar a bit too low for many aspects. I think Porsche is good at doing retro and maybe justifiably ask for a lot of money for retro but that is niche. If Corvette wants to continue it’s winning streak it has to watch closely whats coming from the east…because that is where the the current big three is two seats sport (Ferrari-McLaren-possibly Lambo or substitute) are looking at.
I would take the 911 over the Corvette any day of the week. 911 handles far better than the C8 does.

John: How can you substantiate your opinion?

Negative on “Far better”, there very comparable. My wife has a 22 C8 Z51 and I have a 23 911 4S. These two cares are also comparable in performance to a 458 Ferrari and close to a 488. Different characteristics or feel. The Vette is very predictable.
Her Vette will outrun my 911 on an open track. On a short tight track, about the same or maybe the 911 4S by a very minor amount.
My wife and her family have been racing Vettes for over 40 years now. I’m an outcast with my 911. I have had many 911’s
In fact, the first time her father met me and seen my 911 back in the 90’s he told her to find a new boyfriend. HA HA
The Z06 will run with a Turbo S and I can’t wait to see the ZR1 C8, that car will be crazy fast.
The C8 is the real deal.
The GT3 RS is phenomenal, basically a race car. Some of the 911 guys prefer the little older GT RS’s
My friend has a SF90 Stradale that is unreal, I expect the ZR1 C8 to run with or best it.
Personally, I feel the 911 4S is the best streetcar until you compare cost, then it’s hands down the Vette.
Regarding the top super and hyper cars, I dont think anyone needs 900 HP + for the street. Today’s sports cars have more capability than most individuals’ ability.
Personally, I think the 911’s and Ferrari’s are the sexiest looking.
Corvette racing is defiantly holding their own and a force to be reckoned with.
Everything is subjective, of course
US News should stick to writing about politics and the economy, they know nothing about judging the quality of cars.
