[VIDEO] The 2025 Corvette ZR1's Official Top Speed is 233 MPH!

Yesterday we got the teaser that Chevrolet was releasing the 2025 Corvette ZR1’s top speed and today we got the full video that shows it running at the ATP track in Papenburg, Germany where it averaged 233 MPH.

Driving the all new 2025 Corvette ZR1 was GM President Mark Reuss who said he had confidence in the car’s ability thanks to the people who helped prepped the car for the run, but also the engineering that is behind it as well. Mark says he left it in Sport Mode and we also see from the data telemetry that the car was in 6th gear with the RPM pegged at the 8,000 red line!

Corvette ZR1 Top Speed Run

Like we said yesterday, Chevrolet does their top speed runs in two directions and then averages the difference. Their first run netted a speed of 233.08 while their second run came in at 233.50 MPH.

Chevrolet says that the 233 MPH top speed run is unrivalled by any current production car priced under $1 million, and it wasn’t something that was achieved in a specially prepped Corvette. This ZR1 had the standard chassis and aero package, standard spoiler, carbon fiber ground effects, Michelin Pilot Sport 4S Tires and aluminum wheels. During the testing, five engineers and both ZR1 development cars onsite exceeded 230 mph across multiple runs.

Corvette ZR1 Top Speed Run

“Setting the top-speed record in the Corvette ZR1 is a true triumph for Corvette and for Chevrolet, and also an exhilarating, surreal experience for me personally,” said Reuss. “With the current generation’s switch to mid-engine, we knew the outstanding performance and balance made this a real possibility. To go over there and get it done is a testament to the power of ZR1, and to the incredibly talented team that developed and built it.”

Congratulations to the Corvette Team for this special achievement!

  1. . . . so, essentially, the ZR1 top speed is electronically controlled as it is bumping up against the rev limiter. I noticed that it didn’t creep up on the top speed. It just hit it and stopped accelerating. Regardless, it is still an incredible achievement.

  2. Well, major congratulations to all of the Corvette Team for this new world speed record for an American Sports Car: the 2026 Corvette ZR1 (without the big wing) but here’s a serious question.

Why is Mark Reuss driving for the record attempt?
Instead of any of the Corvette Racing Team like Daniel Juncadella, Earl Bamber, Charlie Eastwood, Nico Varrone, Antonio Garcia, Tommy Milner, Nicky Catsburg, and Alexander Sims,
OR Ron Fellows, Johnny O, Olivier, Jan. Antonio, Oliver, Jordan/Ricky and all of the rest of the older Corvette Racing Teams.
One skinny, light weight talented Racer like these guys surely will be faster than Mark!!
Go for 240 mph, then tell us how cool that the ZR1 is so fast. But at what costs?
    Thanks for listening.

  3. 304.7 MPH is the top speed for the world’s fastest supercar and it goes to Bugatti. In 2019, pilot Andy Wallace, drove a 1,600 HP, 8.0-liter quad-turbo charged Chiron Super Sport around the Ehra-Lessien track (VW test track). Using Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires that were x-rayed before fitment to ensure perfect structural integrity.

In comparison, GM has an additional 71.7 MPH in order to successfully compete with the fastest Super Car in the world? That sounds like a daunting task for GM engineers, when considering a very heavy platform that weighs over 4,000+ pounds.

Please note: The thing to keep in mind is horsepower is heavy. Thus, the more power, the heavier it will become. While horsepower is important for top speed, it’s torque curve and instant power delivery that matters in the real world, ask the engineers at Bugatti, they hold the world speed record?

    Thanks,
    Ray

  4. hello, actually the shelby tuatara was already there with over 300 mph , but the observers said that shelby was not thruthful because of equipment being used. i think that the tuatara is faster but forces at play impede the truth. regardless i’m a corvette fan and hail to the king zr1.
