[VIDEO] Huge Hoard of Classic Corvettes and Parts to be Auctioned


Two high-school buddies, Bill Slaven and Bob (last name not given for some reason), spent more than 60 years traveling the U.S. searching for classic Corvettes and assorted vintage parts.

Bob was usually looking to sell his acquisitions found in their visits to swap meets, auctions, car shows, and leads, but it turns out that Bill was more interested in saving his finds.

Apparently, for decades, Bill would store those cars and parts in storage units, farm barns, and his shop, unbeknownst to his longtime friend.

That’s what Bob discovered after his long-time friend recently passed away and he was tasked with getting Bill’s massive collection of cars and parts catalogued and cleaned up in preparation for a live auction in Wisconsin next month that will also include online bidding.

The big event – known as the Bill Slavens Corvette Hoard – will begin at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, October 5 at Jefferson County Fairgrounds in Jefferson, Wisconsin. Organizers with VanDerBrink Auctions suggest you get there early as the cars will be auctioned first, followed by the parts (some of which are not indexed).

Based on the photos, the cars aren’t in immaculate condition by any means, but some of the stories behind them are fascinating.

For instance, Bob remembers riding in and sitting on the back of a 1953 that Bill bought, but then never saw it again. While we all know the first 300 cars were white over red, this one has been repainted green and has a black interior. It was last driven 49 years ago but doesn’t run these days.

Other cars in the collection include a ’62 and several C2s, C3s, and C4s, including a ’63 with air.

Also on the block will be more than 10 fuel-injection units and lots of NOS parts, including Kelsey-Hayes wheels, trim and center caps.

  1. That’s quite a hoard of barn find classic Corvettes and parts. This is the first time I have ever heard of a tachometer that displays tach hours. What’s up with that? No car I’ve ever owned had a tach that does that.

  2. I find it hard to believe that you could travel the country with your lifelong best friend looking for Corvettes and Corvette parts and he knows nothing about your stash of Corvettes. Sounds like auction hype.

  4. I met Bill when he attended our first Wisconsin Corvette Club swap meet at Dale Chevrolet back in the 70’s. Like many Corvette enthusiasts I was well aware of his pursuit of Corvette fuel injection units and tired old Corvettes. That green 53 was his pride and joy. RIP my friend.
