Just before the workday ended last Friday, we learned that a Stop Sale Order had been put into place for 2024 Model Year Corvettes that might have a bad seat belt retractor. The bad retractors become locked while in their stowed position and become unusable as a driver or passenger restraint. The Stop Sale Order makes sure that no newly produced Corvettes are delivered with bad seatbelt retractors to customers.
As for those affected Corvettes that have already been delivered, we got word today that an official recall effort is under way with a whopping 13,464 Corvettes from 2024 and 2025 affected by the issue. We’re not really sure why 2025 models are being flagged unless it’s for any Captured Test Fleet (CTF) cars running around. We did see three new VIN 001 ’25 Corvettes at the Bash and assume there are more out there.
The seatbelt retractor assemblies are supplied to General Motors by ZF Group and according to the report from AutoEvolution.com, a GM engineer noted the issue at the end of February through GM’s internal Speak Up for Safety program. Based on feedback from the supplier, General Motors identified 56 field complaints related to seatbelts locked in the stowed position with the problem narrowed down to dimensionally incorrect seatbelt retractor parts.
The good news so far for GM and Corvette owners is that so far there have been no injuries or deaths attributed to the faulty seatbelt retractors.
As this is a nationwide recall, GM will begin the owner notification process on or after July 22nd via a letter sent by first class mail. While we had just one of the bulletin ids on Friday’s post, there are actually three service bulletins in place: N242441390, N242441391, and N242441392. Customers can get information about the recall process by contacting Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020.
The report also says that GM began a containment effort at the Bowling Green Assembly Plant on April 29th with the Stop Sale Order issued last week. Unfortunately, it looks like these parts are now in short supply with no estimates on when they will be available, or how long it takes to replace the affected retractors.

Just so happens that I was at the dealer today for service on my 2024 HTC. The cable on the roof snapped so the top would not fully come up. But when I got there the service agent said “we just got a recall on your car. But there is no information about when the parts will be here.

PATHETIC…5 years into production…& they are having SEAT BELT RETRACTOR PROBLEMS?? REALLY !!
Change the vendor from China to Mexico.
ZF Group is a German company, but I have no idea where the origin of manufacture is on the seatbelt retractors.
