Corvettes for Sale: Highly Original 1971 Corvette Convertible on eBay Priced at $22K

When we first spotted the eBay listing for this 1971 Corvette convertible, we assumed it had been restored.

But this vintage Stingray – being auctioned on eBay through Thursday night – is actually a “gorgeous survivor,” according to the seller. What you see in the photos is a Corvette with “mostly original” paint, “original” interior, “original unmodified” drivetrain, and long-term ownership.

Better yet, this C3 is being sold at no reserve, which means a new owner will soon be driving this beautiful convertible on the open road. Some 45 bids have been placed, with the highest so far being $21,100.

This two-owner car was apparently a special order when new and delivered to Dexter Chevrolet in Detroit, Michigan, right off the famous Motor City Eight Mile Road. The original owner kept it for almost 30 years and has passed down all the original manuals, books, protect-o-plate, and more.

After sitting in the owner’s garage for many years, the car received about $14,000 worth of work in 2007 to get it fully functional while maintaining the originality. The seller has all receipts from the work done back then by Dragos Corvettes “with an attention to detail to originality other than what was needing replaced – examples: tires, brakes, fluids, windshield, other minor things.”

Only 1,177 Corvettes were built in the Code 912 Sunflower Yellow paint, and it’s nicely paired with a black canvas top and rare black leather interior (a $158 option chosen by only 2,602 customers out of the 21,801 built). “It is fun to drive and gets a lot of attention,” the seller says.

The car retains its original numbers-matching 350/270 horsepower V8 engine, connected to an automatic transmission. The seller believes the engine has never been taken out of the bay, and the car “runs great and drives excellent,” especially with the optional power steering and power brakes.

The paint is said to be “mostly original” except for some body work done to the door jambs due to birdcage repair in 2007, again by Dragos Corvettes.

“The car is in amazing condition and was always well kept,” the seller says, admitting there are some small chips and light paint checking noticeable up close. “But for being 53 years old, this car is in great condition. I see a lot of original Corvettes, and this one is much nicer than most. It is truly a time capsule.”

As for the interior, the seller says it shows “minimal” wear and “presents very nice,” with no rips in the seat covers and the dash, door panels, and carpeting are in “great” shape.

“If you are looking for a highly original C3, this is the one,” he promises. “They are hard to find in nice original condition and are skyrocketing in value.”
