The Florida Highway Patrol is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of a Ford Mustang believed to be racing a C7 Corvette Z06 that crashed and then disintegrated into multiple parts in Marion County early Saturday morning.
The Corvette driver, who was thrown from the car and landed about 154 feet away, was taken to HCA Florida Ocala Hospital for treatment of critical injuries.
Authorities say during a possible race, the Mustang cut off the Corvette, causing it to swerve to the right and collide with a Toyota Prius. The Corvette then struck a wooden utility pole, slicing through the pole before hitting a tree with its left side. Troopers say that impact broke the Z06 into at least four major sections, with many other smaller pieces also left scattered on the ground.

After receiving multiple 911 calls about the accident, Marion County Fire Rescue answered the call and arrived at the intersection of SW Highway 200 and SW 80th Street at 8:29 a.m. Because the crash caused the power lines to hang very low, SR 200 had to be closed for repairs by the power company.
The Highway Patrol has released a picture of the man believed to be behind the wheel of the Mustang, describing him as a white male between 5’8” and 6’0” and weighing between 225 to 250 pounds with a neatly trimmed beard and two tattoos on his right forearm. At the time of the wreck, he was wearing a pink shirt, black hat, and gray Under Armour shorts.

Mustang guys always start shit with me when I’m behind the wheel of any of my Corvettes. They have a serious attitude problem!
Another Corvette owner goes slumming… It’s like racing a Honda, smh. No good deed goes unpunished…
Inferiority complex. Mustang dudes always are the clowns at my local cars and coffee events. We had one a couple years ago loose control doing a burn out and rolled after hitting the ditch in the middle of the road.
How did such a highly detailed description of somebody in a car driven at a presumably high speed come about? Then too, how did the Corvette driver survive THAT? Holy cow!
Can’t believe the driver of the corvette lived. He was very lucky.
Wow, come on you guys. That car was destroyed, says a lot about build quality. Driver being still alive that is, wow. At 8:30 in the AM no less.
Driver survived but has critical injuries..
Hopefully he makes it, but with crash damage that substantial, he may have a long recovery.
