A few years back, the 24 Hours of Le Mans became part of the World Endurance Championship’s regular racing schedule, and it made getting entries into the race that much harder. Corvette Racing was eventually forced to take part in another WEC race on the schedule to qualify for Le Mans while organizers were working GM Racing behind the scenes to get a C8.R team to run the full WEC schedule.

As we like to say, be careful what you wish for! Last year Chevrolet split the IMSA Corvette Racing into two and sent the second C8.R to the WEC where it would race the full WEC schedule.

This year with a revamped line up featuring veterans Nicky Catsburg, Ben Keating, and newcomer Nico Veronne, the No. 33 Corvette C8.R came out swinging with two wins in a row at Sebring and Portimão, while also picking up P2 at SPA. Then came the 24 Hours of Le Mans with the C8.R battling back from two laps down to take the win in France. With the championship already in reach, Corvette Racing clinched the deal with a fourth place finish in Italy to take the GTE-Am championship with two races left.
